Default TA11 vs TA31, worth it for the extra eye relief?

Hey All,

Within the next year I would like to be purchasing an ACOG and was am wondering about the pros/cons between the 4x and 3.5x models.

The 4x model is two inches shorter and weighs a quarter pound less than the 3.5x. However, the 3.5x model has a full inch more of eye relief. Is that eye relief worth the extra bulk?

Also, the 3.5x models are a little more expensive, but if I'm alreading dropping about a grand on an optic whats a hundred more dollars gonna be?

Also consider the platform when you consider eye relief. If you have a fixed A2 buttstock on your AR, you might need more eye relief then you would if you have a collapsing buttstock.

For example, this M4 clone has TA31 & BUIS:

If you have a M16A4 like this Marine, then the TA31 has to be all the way to the rear, which doesn't leave room for a BUIS:
