make it a game. make the DI's laugh, put deodorant on your balls infront of them.. do upside down push ups in the shower.
it is not personal!

the biggest tip of all is.. you can not fail. the system is designed so that everyone passes.. unless you really suck

also,,, if you do not think that you will make it. say something..
do not jump from the third balcony...

You need to do 100 crunches I'm two minutes. That is the easiest portion of the test and should be an automatic 100 points.

1. No matter how bad you may think it is, you'll have to stop getting killed soon to go to chow.
2. The only hard week you will have is mess or "Team" week. Only about 3 or four hours of sleep so you will be tired.
3. When the DI's tell you to do something, do it as fast as you possibly can. When they tell you to stop, do so just as fast.
4. Sound off. Loud and fast. It's not the Army with, "Yes Drill Sargeaaaaant!"
You say, "Aye, aye, sir!" but it comes out, "I-sir!!" with a viciousness.
5. Don't fall asleep ever when you're not supposed to.
6. Accept that you will pay for others mistakes and there will be recruits that you will dislike immensely and might like to see harm done to. Help them.
7. The UCMJ is no joke, so if you are prone to getting into ****, well standby then. Boot camp is the easy part. The Fleet is what will really test you.
8. Enjoy yourself. It's a lot of fun. Try not to laugh during hygiene inspection though.

Keep your head down and your mouth shut.
Do what you are told when you are told to do it.
Offer to help a shipmate when you see he/she needs it.
Ask a shipmate for help when you need it.
Don't be the one that causes group punishment.
Keep your head down and your mouth shut. (See what I did there.)

Good advice. Also, don't give up. A lot of it is a mental game. Have your family members and friends write you letters, letting you know how much they miss you and what a stud you are for serving our country.

Good luck.

Be loud.
Be motivated.
The worst moments of F**k-F**k games are all scripted.
  • empty/refill your footlocker
  • two sheets and a blanket
  • Mass IT
  • The Pits during range week
You're not going to sleep...at all...for the first three days.
You're going to receive about 12 inoculations in about 20 seconds.
work on your PULL UPS, not CHIN UPS.
make sure to poop every night.
get comfortable with pooping in front of everyone else; there are no stall doors in the bathroom
hydrate.
learn to speak in the third person.
extract volume from your DIAPHRAGM, not your THROAT...you will go hoarse real quick if you scream from your throat.
if you're short, you'll always be in the back, and you'll always be running to keep up with the tallf*cks.
DON'T GO TO BOOTCAMP WITH YOUR HEAD PRESHAVED
pack your ILBE/FILBE as tight and small as humanly possible. have someone stand on it and ratchet the straps down. wear it tight and high on your back

In the long run, remember you are VOLUNTARILY joining THE MILITARY, so remember that down the road when you say "man I hate The Corps, I can't wait to get out..." YOU SIGNED UP FOR IT

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Can't believe its been 7 years already!
whats your MOS? open contract?

Most have said it all already.

It's designed to start making you an American Soldier/Marine/Sailor/Chairman I mean Airman.

Do what they say. Stay positive. Remember your graduation date.

OP you have a month to finally take this seriously. Your IST numbers are hideous. I am stoked that you are going to serve our country in the best branch possible. But I am getting a 1st class PFT at 32. If you can do 10 pull-ups now you should be doing at least 100 a day, everyday. You should be running 3+ days a week at 3-5 miles each run. Your sit-ups should be at 100 plain and simple. Again, exercising sit-ups everyday. The physical aspect of MCRD should be the last thing to hinder you. Marines work, Grunts work harder, and Corpsman work the hardest. Handle your sh** and Semper Fi

i work out just about every day.

The PFT is 3 miles. Only poolees run 1.5 miles. If you don't look like you are going to throw up at the end, you aren't pushing hard enough

The whole idea as I remember it is to break you down, then build you up as a cohesive team. Someone already mentioned it is all in a book. They can only make you do so many pushups the first day, and the second and the third.

I went through when almost everyone smoked. And we made the PT everyday. Be squared away and spend the time thinking how to do it better! Eyes in the boat! You got this!

Have fun, I did!

I gotta ask..... Why infantry? Low ASVAB score? Glutten for punishment? Don't like getting promoted? Jes wondering....cuz in the real world, there isn't too many resumes that call for anyone who can PT twice a day a say they can kill as many people as they can without remorse.

If it's what yo want, good on you. We need trigger pullers. If you want to get some high tech, life worthy training, rethink your MOS now.

I loved being a 41. Until we had to hump ****. The '11 always had it easy on the hump. But humping a baseplate it awkward as hell and it's uncomfortable as ****. Constantly adjusting ****.

Unit 74 is correct here. I loved being an Airborne Ranger in the Army. But that kind of work transfers to very few jobs in the civilian world, one of which is Military Contracting.

Get a medical MOS, try and get through nursing or radiology school. You will thank us later.

Good luck.
They will stress you to the breaking point - just to see how you do. Don't dog it - give it all you got - trust me they will know. They will challenge you to do things you cannot possibly do - not interested in the results - ITS YOUR EFFORT THAT COUNTS. Sometimes you may be surprised at what you can do.
LOL - I am saying "they" - used to be "WE" so trust me - I do know whereof I speak.
Now - hit the deck and give me 50 - NOW!!!!
Good Luck,

Bootcamp is just a way to see if you can follow directions (orders) and makes sure that you are in halfway decent shape. Keep quiet, do as you're told and it will be a cakewalk.

Obviously you never got too near PI - you wouldn't have heard whole lot of laughter coming from there. Smoking??? DIs confiscated ALL smokes first day. We got one 15 minute smoke break after 6 weeks. Anything you received from home went into a footlocker in the DI office. Then they would pass out ONE cigarette from there. My grandmother kept sending me KOOLs. And of course I always got the credit for my generosity.
But I'll tell you this: I went into boot camp weighing 118 - came out 140 - and trust me there was not an ounce of fat on me. It wasn't gourmet food and not always a lot of it - but it was all you needed.

Don't do anything go there with an open mind and get ready to play games. Hope you get a good rack buddy cuz that helps. With PT there will always be someone worst then you. try to get the letter "I" out of your mouth. Cuz the first time you ask to use the head its going to start. I NEED/REQUEST TO USE THE BATHROOM SIR. Then youre going to heard IIIIIIIIIIIII

Keep accountability of all youre issued gear. Sucks leaving owning the govt. Money. When you go to px dont buy anthing unless you need it.

Have fun you will remember it forever.

Dont get hurt or sick graduate with your platoon. Watch out for PINKEYE

Having done a police academy prior to Basic I knew that going in, and for the life of me couldn't convince my peers at the time there wasn't anything they could do to prevent the "punishment".

Just go with it. You could be in an entire company of prior service Rangers, and they would call it "training", but for you they will call it "punishment".

It's all semantics.

Being 39 when I was in basic totally ruined it for me. The whole "this is the end of the world reaction" for the most mundain of stupid actions just didn't do it for me. Yea, yea yea, it's the end of the world. Someone left a piece of toilet paper on the bathroom floor. We are all now going to die because of our lack of attention to detail.

You got a lot of good advice, but here's mine: Always think positive! If you start questioning yourself, you need to think, "Hey, I'm just as good as those other guys, if not better!". One more push-up? If you REALLY concentrate, you can probably do FIVE more! "I CAN do this, and it will be GOOD for me!"

If it's what yo want, good on you. We need trigger pullers. If you want to get some high tech, life worthy training, rethink your MOS now.
I respect those who can go grunt. I've done my share of pats and was glad It's not my MOS, but if you're looking to be a BAMF, the war(s) are over for the moment, there are no real deployments anymore really. Especially since you're going reserve.

Get a medical MOS, try and get through nursing or radiology school. You will thank us later.

There is no medical or religious fields in the Marine Corps....

Good luck. Don't make smart comments, save attitude for the fleet lol. DO WHAT YOU ARE TOLD ... really the best advice to give. Take pride in all your work, your appearance and your military bearing. Don't lose your military bearing after basic, no matter what. Others may start to slack off... be the example and do the right thing even if others aren't looking.

Fortunately for you, you are not going to be there on April fools day. My MTI had a jacked up sense of humor. (And here come the AF jokes) Oh and your stomach will probably be jacked up the first week. You either won't drop a deuce for a few days or you'll have the hershey squirts. Good luck!
