To fix an error, or add a SN#?

Out of curiosity, when you do a modification, such as adding a SN#, do they take the old permit, or is it still good until the new one arrives?

Went to remove my 1911 and replace it with a G26.

The old permit is still valid, but you cannot carry the new weapon until you receive the new permit. So I'm having deja vu having to wait another two weeks for my modified permit. LOL

I did my initial interview on 2/16. The detective said the next panel would be in a couple of weeks, and I would hear back sometime in March. Hoping it's soon. I answered a couple questions honestly, and hoping that won't have an effect. I have no record or anything, and have done multiple LS to include PC832 firearms training, so I think I'll be okay.

I had my interview the same day as you! I'm crossing my fingers every time I go to the mail box.

I was supposed to have 2 guns on my permit, but they missed one! So, I had to do go in a second time for a modification, and pay $10 for their mistake (no big deal). My modded permit came in only about a week, so maybe I was just lucky, or maybe you'll get yours sooner than two weeks.........maybe.

Just got back from my initial interview. Both detectives were professional and courteous. I'll probably have to wait about a month to hear back it seems.

My timeline in Sacramento:

12/07/2010 - Made online appt to turn in original app on 02/23/2011
02/23/2011 - Turned in app and had my interview
03/03/2011 - Made online appt for final paperwork turn in for 04/26/2011 (thinking positive!)
03/10/2011 - Rec'd initial approval letter, dated 03/03/2011, and the LiveScan forms (total nine days for approval, and letter to be typed, seven more to receive it)
03/10/2011 - Did the LiveScan at the 65th St substation (nice being retired!)
03/14/2011 - Called LiveScan: FBI results received and electronically forwarded to SSO on 03/10/2011; CA/DOJ results not yet received
03/15/2011 - Called LiveScan: FBI results received and electronically forwarded to SSO on 03/10/2011; CA/DOJ results received and electronically forwarded to SSO on 03/15/2011
03/16-17/2011 - CCW class and qualifications taken at California Security Training Academy (CSTA). Passed, including a Seecamp 32 with no sights! Missed a perfect score with my 1911 in .45 with one shot in the 7 ring. Now, I'm just waiting for the letter from Amber.
03/28/2011 - Rec'd clearance letter from Amber dated 03/23/2011, mailed on 03/24/2011. Checked online appt system, and glory be! They had one appt for tomorrow 03/29/2011, which wasn't there last night, and I took it. No more appt's 'till May! I do believe, however, one or two will open up in April after tomorrow's appt has been sucessfully completed.
03/29/2011 - Had my "final" appt this morning, they took me in about 20 min early. They had no problems with any of my paperwork, and I signed and right-thumb-printed my blank permit. Now, just the wait for the mailman! I did free up an appt for Tuesday, 4/26 at 10:30am. I also freed up an appt for Thursday, 4/14 at 10:00am, but that didn't show back up on the calendar. Recently, they had opened up Thursdays for "final" appts, but have since removed them from the calendar.
04/02/2011 - Rec'd the permit that was mailed on 04/01/2011!

Sounds like they have ironed out the process pretty well and have some sort of structure going.

The 2nd detective I talked to today told me they review all applications on a weekly basis with the panel.. so probably after the last Thursday appointment for new applications I'm guessing.

I'm sure this has been answered somewhere, but how soon after completing the livescan does the Sac Sheriff dept. get the results on average?

Yeah I originally had bought a G30 for CCW, but it's a bit too chunky for my build. So I ended up buying a G26 as well to put on there. The 1911 was put on just for the hell of it at the time.

So now my permit consists of a G26, G30 and an HK USPc.

It takes about 2-3 weeks for the hard-copy to get to the SSD.

Your issuance date has nothing to do as to when your check has cleared. From what i understand Amber does those in random batches a few times a month.

I was a little nervous, here's why:

I always answer the questions honestly because it's better to be honest then to have a lie come up later, plus that's just how I roll.

To the drug question, I admitted to having tried marijuana a few years ago. Tried it after I got out of the navy a couple times, didn't like it, haven't touched it since. Never done any other drugs.

I also told about a DV situation I was in, but it was my girlfriend at the time that was drunk and attacking me. She started making suicidal threats so I called PD. They came and short formed it. No report ever made as far as I know, but I brought this up anyway just in case they did find it.

With that stuff up front, still got approved. Time to go do the livescan and schedule my CCW class. Too bad my PC 832 class didn't count.

If the class was the Firearms portion, and within the past 2 years and you recently qualified within the past year... it should have. At least according to what I've been told by Amber. I took the course about 5 years ago... Kind of bummed that it didn't count either... would have saved me some $$$.

I was told, by the detective who did my interview, that it didn't count, because it didn't cover CCW or firearms from a civilian stand point.

I would love for it to count though, if I can get it to. I'll try emailing Amber.

The course that the security training academies use for their CCW training is the BSIS firearms course... and that's not going to deal with CCW either. Think about this:
Quote:
(E) (i) For new license applicants, the course of training may be
any course acceptable to the licensing authority, shall not exceed 16
hours, and shall include instruction on at least firearm safety and
the law regarding the permissible use of a firearm. Notwithstanding
this clause, the licensing authority may require a community college
course certified by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and
Training, up to a maximum of 24 hours, but only if required uniformly
of all license applicants without exception.
Being that POST does not certify Firearms training programs for Non-LE personnel... and the course length is 24 hours, that can only be a PC 832 Firearms course taken through a Community College. The Legislature has said that such a course is acceptable training for CCW purposes. PC 832 Firearms does cover firearm safety and the law regarding the permissible use of a firearm... and the law says NOTHING about firearms as it pertains to CCW specifically.

Awesome. I should be good to go then. That'll save some money. Of course, I still have to go and qualify with my weapons.

Just make sure you're good to go per Amber. The training itself has to have been within the past 2 years. Simply having an active PC 832 likely isn't enough.

I got it last November, so I'm good there. I'll report back on Monday. Hopefully AMber will respond then.

When your little piece of rice paper arrives it will be the most awesome feeling. I know this sounds corny, but I believe having my permit has made me a little more concientious about a few things. I know, it's a ridiculous comment but I am just being honest here.
I had one thing against me in my interview of about 4 minutes. I had a few tickets. The sheriff told me I needed to watch my driving habits........And I have.
Since having my permit now for awhile, I would never want to do anything to jepordize.
I don't rush yellow lights anymore.......What a cheezy deal! But a change non the less.
For those of you that are about to get your permits I say good for you! Congradulations!
Ed

Two days until my final appointment, then another bit of waiting until I have my permit. My birthday is in 2 weeks, so this will be the best birthday present ever.

Edit: 10 hours until my final appt.

Well, I'm signed and thumb printed. I had a 9:30 appointment and arrived at 9:10 one other person was there when I arrived, I was taken up in less than a minute and done in around 10 minutes. I was reminded not to carry until my permit arrived and thanked for having everything in order. Now for the wait Thank you CGF for everything that you have done to bring this to be.

If the 832 with the firearms portion has been completed within the last 2 years, we will accept that. However you will still need to provide a range slip for the weapons to be on the permit. This course does not cancel out the need for firing at the range.

sacluded: as long as your PC 832 is dated that soon, you're good to go training wise. Worst case, head over to Sac Valley or another range that does CCW qualification shoots and just do one of their qual shoots with the weapons you are going to list on the CCW. Bring the qualification cards with you and the PC 832 Firearms course (and a copy for them to keep) certificate to the final signing along with the other paperwork they require.

If things go as expected, you should be signing for your CCW on Friday or Saturday. Seriously.
