Default Need help with zero for ar10

Here is the deal. Cmmg rifle, true glow 8-32x44 scope mounted to 1 inch from rail to bottom of scope. Shooting 150gr fmj.

Took it out shooting today and could not get the elevation down. At 100 yards I'm about 4' low with the knob dialed all the way up. My buddy said to dial it the other way . So I did and made the drop even worse. Do I need higher rings or what am I doing wrong

I bought extra weaver rings and my obj still hit the rail. Which is why I went with a riser and low rings

Some risers are built in with 10-40 degrees of elevation.

Some no name items are just junk.

If your riser has elevation, do you have it mounted backwards?

Unless you need the riser, dump it.

I have also seen rings that have built in elevation. Again do you have these and are they mounted backwards?

It is alway possible for things to be out of spec.

So who makes your riser?
Who makes the rings?

I have around a 1/4 inch of room between the obj and the rail.

I'm guessing you have a 20MOA riser/rail mounted backwards.

Of course mounted correctly you may find you can't get POI down.

How much internal adjustment in scope?

That's 32 clicks for 4 inches at 100 yards, fun. Your scope is probably jacked up. You shouldn't run out of adjustment at 100 yards especially if you're not using a 20-25 moa rail.

I see your point. I was thinking when I got the scope I was going to do hopefully out to 1k so the 1/8 adj would help me out at that distance

The level can't tell you anything (20 MOA is only 1/3 degree). Measure as accurately as you can the hieght in back vs. the height in front. 20 MOA will be about 1/32".

Ok
Some thoughts

The Syrians are able to snipe with junk. So it can be done...

But if you want to have a scope that you can shoot out to 1K then you need a great optic. When folks shoot a box drill, cheaper optics will not hold true.

Most quality products are either marked or engraved with the manufacturers info.

For good rails as such- look at

http://www.egwguns.com
GG&G out of Arizona

Look at Badger rings

If you want to measure your base for elevation you will need to pull it and use a micrometer. A tape measure and level won't tell you the needed info.

My gut tells me that if you want an optic that you can spin the turret on and change you zero between 100 and 600+, you should sell your riser, rings and optics and start over with a significantly higher budget

The true glow might be a fine optic for a rifle where you zero 2" high at 100 and then you shoot out to 300.

And then used Kentucky wind age and holdover for beyond 300.

When you see a good optic you realize that you can read the target info at the bottom at 100. So you can read the 12 point font at 100

did you do any form of boresighting? take the upper off, bcg and ch out, have your buddy hold it, look through the barrel and aim at a target 50 yards away. then zero your scope on the target, viola super rough bore sight to get you on paper, then try to fine tune it.

or your scope could be jacked up?

Ya I did that at the range. No bueno.

@ hermosa. I know where u are coming from. I just don't have the cash to bling it out. The only reason why I have my upper and optics is because my dad sent me 1k. My wet dream is a us optic 10-24 power but that's like 2.5k. I have a BSA in the same power on my 223 and am able to hit clays at 500 yds. With a 308 I should be able to hit a yote at 1k . Or at least I hope.

The true glow scope is a $60 scope
Add to that unknown rings and riser....

It is almost impossible to find the error...

You could go to the rage with a 3-4' target.
Shoot a group on paper and then screw the elevation turret the other direction.... this would let you know if 12 turns gives you the correct change in impact that it should.

If the turrets work correctly, I would swap up the riser and rings for rings that you want when the budget allows....
Leopold Mark 4 rings or badgers are less than $200.... or about the same as 150 rounds of match ammo....

For a semi I think that USO would be overkill.. Nightforce or a good leopold should be fine....

The question is what MOA can the rifle shoot at 200 yards? If the rifle is not a 1/2" MOA rifle then a USO scope might be an overkill

You could also mount the scope on a 10/22 to see if the scope is off or the rings, riser or receiver are off

I can help!
Take the scope and rings and throw them in the garbage.
Why for the love of all thats holy do we Americans insist on putting $100 scopes on rifles that cost thousands!
Even if the scope was of decent quality, 8-32 is a horrible magnification range for that rifle.
Save up around 600-1200 bucks and get a good quality 4-12 or 5-20 scope and that will get you out farther than the rifle is capable of shooting accurately.
If you want suggestions in that price range look at Vortex, SWFA, Bushnell,
FFP is nice but not "needed".

BTW, that rifle WILL NOT "hit a yote" at 1K.

+1 ~ Sorry OP, SJB is right. You have some mighty fine, cheap Chinese junk there. Sometimes you can find those on sale for as little as $69. That scope is a throw-away. Get at least a mid-price ($500-$999) Nikon, Vortex, or Bushnell and don't look back. Also, 30mm tubes typically have more room for adjustment.

"The bitterness of poor quality lingers long after the sweetness of low price is long forgotten."
