Legally kill rabbits
Hi, i live on San Marcos and have a rabbit issue. They are getting into the engine bay of my cars and chewing up the wiring harness. I know its the rabbits because i poped the hood one day and saw it chewing. I live in a incorporared area and cannot use a gun. Anyone know of any ideas? I need to protect my property without getting arrested.

You might let mother nature do the dirty work by putting up some owl boxes. It won't be instant reduction but it might help in a long term solution.
https://www.barnowlbox.com/ this place has plastic easy to install boxes that will last (and they even have kestrel boxes). Do a little research and find out what predators live in your area and then encourage them to find your problem & their apparently overabundant food sources. |

Get one of those big flat metal oil leak pans and slide it under the engine. Strip the business end off an extension cord and attach one wire to the pan and the other to the bumper. I'm sure you'll be delighted with the results.

We have a lot of feral cats plus skunks and possum so to keep them out of the garden I put moth balls at what looks like areas the could get through and into the yard, works does no harm and after a while they go someplace else.
PS we don't have pets.

Bow and arrow or crossbow, and some practice . Just be aware that rabbits scream louder human babies when injured. So take that into account. The more humane thing would be to put chili powder around your car on the ground, so any animal that goes under there will probably not want to come back.

Had a neighbor with a skunk problem-they were digging up his yard after grubs.
He bought a humane trap and baited it appropriately. When he got one he would take a tarp and walk up to the trap with the tarp held up in front of him and drape the tarp over the trap. He then ran a section of flex-haust hose under the tarp, connected the other end to his truck exhaust pipe and started the engine. 3 minutes later, skunk departed with no problems and no loud noise like a gun or airgun to arouse neighbor curiosity. .. Bag and dump in garbage can. |

Heard a similar solution. Carpeted live trap and 55 gallon drum filled with water. Ranch hand would make the rounds, quietly pick up the trap and take it to the drum in the back of the truck. |

Humane trap with a trash bag already surrounding the sides and back of the trap will disguise it a bit.
Also will help to wrap if you get a skunk instead of a rabbit.

Some of you guys are pretty evil. You guys speak of "humane" traps, then proceed to do inhumane things. Quite ironic.
It's one thing to end it quickly, it's another to make it suffer until the end. |

The point of the traps is that they're quiet.

That interesting. Heard of squirrels and rats doing that....never rabbits.
I would box trap them and either dispatch with a pellet gun, or relocate and release. Bunnies do like to rapidly reproduce tho. July 1st is the beginning of rabbit season so technically you wouldn't be killing them illegally either at that point...assuming you have a hunting license. If you're gonna kill them....might as well eat them too.
