Thumbs up St. Patricks Day Panoche Shoot

Well, I was thinking...I really enjoyed the last Panoche shoot, how about another.

I have a friend coming from out of town in March and thought it'd be cool to take him out to Panoche for a little shoot. Is anyone else interested?

I think the same place we had it before would be good. We had clear shots out to about 400+ yds and it was a BLAST!!...so what does everyone think? Maybe we can get some of the "regulars" to bring out their toys

Directions are on page 3 post #30

I'm up for it. I need to sight in a couple of rifles anyway, and I finally got my SA1911 cycling properly. [note to self - apparently it's OK to beat on the internal extractor like a crack-addicted monkey]

I'm in +1.

Perfect timing to blow off stress being the weekend after DST.

I'm thinking about camping out that weekend, is anyone else going to stay the night?

Does anyone have the GPS coordinates of the shooting site?

Also what do you recommend for target stands?

Exclamation Directions and Info

It's pretty easy to get there.

If your coming from the San Jose area:

Come 101 south to 156 east to Union road in Hollister, go right. Follow Union Rd. to Airline Highway and go right. Follow Airline Hwy to Panoche Rd then go left (there's a little store/ old gas station there) follow Panoche Rd to Little Panoche Rd then turn left, follow that for about 10 or 11 miles and look for the BLM sign on the right.

From I5 Central valley area:

Take I5 (depending where you are north or south) to the Shields Ave exit and go west. Follow that a mile or two and turn onto Little Panoche Rd. (it may turn into Little Panoche Rd)Follow that for approx 15-20 miles (I'm guessing as I did't clock this section) look for the BLM sign on the left.

Once you get to the gate, I hope to be there 9 am waiting. I'll most likely be in a white F250 4x4. I'll wait (or hopefully someone will) for stragglers until 10 am, after that you're on your own, so leave early. once you're inside the park it's a couple miles back.

I'm gonna try and get there early enough to put out signs to the site. The signs will have "CG" on them.

Here's a link to the Google map For Little Panoche Road: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...,0.179558&om=1

I'm looking forward to the trip, I hope alot of people can make it. If anyone is interested in Tannerite, contact Martin at Irvinton arms, he may carry it. And with some luck, he may be out there. You can order Tannerite from here:http://www.tannerite.com/ I can say from the last trip, this stuff is COOL!

As for stands, I'll be bringing 5 metal stands. (someone ended up with one at the last shoot) I'll try to get 6 more. BRING CARDBOARD about 2'x3' You can use 2x4's to make a stand or use 3' or 4' stakes from a hardware store. Google "target stands" or make something like this: https://secure1.totalink.net/targetb...%5Ctarget3.jpg The ground is pretty soft, so you could just attach rebar to the legs and stick it into the ground or build a stand like the picture.

If anybody has any questions just PM me, I'll do my best to help out.

That's a good idea. Maybe you can hook up with someone from the bay area. I'm driving from Santa Cruz, if someone is in this area they can catch a ride with me if I don't bring a buddy.

I think it's a little faster because you can fly down 101 from S.J. When I came back last time, it took me a few minutes over two hours back to Ben Lomond.

It's not a bad drive. When you get past Hollister you're out in the bare nothing!

I think if we had a carpool setup
or maybe a meeting spot so newbies like myself can meet someone so we can follow them to Panoche...

we could get a few more people to go.

People can follow me if they'd like, but I'll be leaving pretty early about 5:30 am so I can get down there and make sure I can find the same spot. It was nice and had clear shots out to 400+ yds.

If people wanted to meet in Santa Cruz at Denny's.

Perfect Idea! Rickfifty brought an old keg last time. It looked like swiss cheese when he left.

Exclamation Confirming Attendance

So, can we get a general confirmation? a "yea, I'm going" it's coming up this Saturday...

Is anyone interested in meeting up and/or carpooling or caravaning? if so, where's a central meeting spot for everyone?

I'm going to get a few more target stands and I have the bell, but You'll need to bring cardboard for the stands (about 2'X3' pieces) let me know if I can help out with anything else.

Robert

So far all I have is it mounted on a pole. But I was also gonna secure it with four ropes with stakes or something. (something easy to carry out there) The pole is about 6+- feet long and I have it stuck in the ground now about two feet. I think it will be ok but the rope might give it the extra stability.

Are you gonna make it down? are you bringing any heavy metal?
