Default Lytle Creek shooting Steel Core...

Spending a whole day at Lytle Creek shooting Steel case and steel core ammo without being questioned? My friend went there two weeks ago and told me that its really not that big of a deal to the RO if your shooting TULA, Wolf or any of those russian rounds as long you obey to the rest of the range rules.. Has anyone have experience that? I need to fire my 7.62x39 and 54r"s but i only have steel core/case ammos.. I can only go to BLM but if im just going by my self i dont really feel safe, do you think Lytle Creek is a GTG?

Steel on steel is all good at LCreel. Have fun and take some nice soft targets stands etc.
LC has some big steel targets at 100 yards and that s it.

I've been there when they have a 200 yard steel target up. That was fun. I've never been questioned shooting my Mosin and surplus sc.

When do you plan on heading to LC?

Been thinking about spending a day out there myself pretty soon.

Depends on the weather and how dry it is. If there is a high humidity level and relatively no wind they don’t care if you shoot steel core. However if there is a high level of dryness and the fire level is high (you’ll see the Dept. of Forestry signs on the way up as to what level LC is), then they will not let you shoot steel core due to the bullets causing sparks and potentially starting a fire. They have gotten on me before about steel core and I could not shoot my Mosin that day.

Would I be correct to presume the le ranger is still not allowing 10+mags, even pre ban ones. That is what stopped us from having official shoots there anymore beginning in 2011. It was/is not a staff imposed rule, but his.

I know for a fact that mags over 10 rounds are verboten for "Assault" rifles (their verbage, not mine). To my knowledge it is a range rule and not any one individuals rule.

What I don't know is if hi caps are allowed on featureless rifles. I haven't taken my M1A there since the no hi cap rule, but I owned all my 20 rounders prior to '00 anyway, so it shouldn't matter.

I stopped going to LC around '02, went once in '09 and hi caps were still okay then, but the next time I went there was 08/13 and that's when I learned of the no hi cap mag rule.

Hecktic is right about the rules regarding steel ammo. I frequent Lytle but I have no knowledge on the mag thing as I have 10 rounders.
