I ve been shooting my gamo silent cat (1200 fps in .177) all week and it really looses a lot of accuracy after about 20 yards or so??

Do you guys think a .22 or .25 would have greater accuracy out to a bit further distance? I ve been trying to put down the starlings and pigeons that have recently moved into my backyard (i live in the country side) and crap all over the place?

What do you guys think of these guns:

Stroeger in .22 that fires at 1200fps http://www.airgundepot.com/stoeger-x-50-30112.html

Hatsan .22 that firest at 800 fps http://www.airgundepot.com/hatsan-10...2-caliber.html

or

Hatsan .25 that fires at 650 fps http://www.airgundepot.com/hatsan-st...rifle-kit.html

Do you guys think that .25 is getting too powerful for small bird hunting? Mainly starlings and pigeons? I dont want to end up damaging my property or trees when firing at them? Should I stick to a .22? or maybe use heavier .177 ammo? If I use heavier .177 ammo I could continue to use my gamo?

Your Gamo should be a pretty good gun, but yeah you should definitely look in to better and heavier ammo. Try the Crosman Destroyer Pellets, they have em at most Walmart stores and they work really well in all my pellet guns and when used to hunt, they do a lot of damage and are really effective hunting pellets. The Crosman Premier Hollowpoints work well in most my pellet guns too and are also widely available. If you're still not satisfied with the results, I would say trade in your gun for a .22 air rifle

I have a RWS 850 airmagnum, bolt action .22cal that I converted to run off of 90z paintball tanks. It's fun, but not as much fun as the real thing!

Buy some good pellets. Crosman, Daisy, etc arent so accurate because of sloppy casting. Many of them still have flashing on them.

Try H&N Finale Match, Vogel, or RWS. They are much more consistent and have no flashing to hurt accuracy. You can even try different sizes, 4.49mm or 4.50mm, depending on what your gun likes.

Will do, but it will be awhile. My wife is not aware of all the purchases I've been making, and since we both work and have two young kids, we don't have much time.

** EDIT ** - Oh, my yard isn't too private and I'm going to have only about 10 yards of space there. I'll bring it to the range when I get a chance.

re: artillery hold - you should only have a very light grip with your support hand with any rifle. Mostly it should just be supporting the rifle. Even with Garands you can shoot it just fine holding your hand out flat like a platform, although I prefer just to let my fingers curl in naturally.

With your trigger hand it should be pulling it back into your shoulder an amount suitable for the caliber. With an air rifle or .22 mostly it's just making sure its in your shoulder pocket - there's no reason to be using a lot of force.

OK, sounds good and I know what you mean, I got a wife and kids too, so I know exactly what you're talking about..
I just got my Colt 1911 Special Combat CO2 pistol back, a friend of mine borrowed it because I was thinking about selling it, but now that I got it back and my friend is more interested in a different CO2 pistol, I'm kind of glad because the Special Combat is a fun and really nice looking gun to shoot, the accuracy isn't the best, but it's not bad either and it's a really affordable gun to shoot because it shoots steel BB's and steel BB's run about between 3 to 4 bucks for 2400 Daisy Zinc Coated BB's, which IMO are the best BB's out there, right next to the Umarex BB's.

I just got a Crosman Z77 Uzi from 1988. I know it is hoakie and lame ,but it is a really collectible item.

That's cool! Can you upload some pics, I haven't seen one of those before! What's the FPS on it and is it fully auto or single shot?

Here's a pic of my small Colt collection
Top: Colt Woodsman .22LR
Middle: Colt 1911 Special Combat CO2 .177 BB Pistol
Bottom: Colt Defender CO2 .177 BB Pistol

Only thing missing is a Colt 1911 .45 ACP, but that will have to happen when I have the funds for that. I love 1911's, but as of right now I just can't afford one..

Question: nitro piston vs spring. And .22 vs .25?

What are your guys opinions?

Nitro piston can be cocked for as long as you want, while a spring piston should only be cocked for 30 minutes, otherwise the spring will take damage. I personally would go for the .22 over the .25 because the ammo for the .22 is more widely available

Also bought a Benjamin Marauder in .25 cal. I'm so tired of looking and waiting at Big5, Walmart and the major online stores for 22 LR. I hope people will start hoarding on .22-.25 air rifle ammo so I can start stocking up on 22LR ! Lol!
Already looked at a scuba tank at Sport Chalet $154.00 and will save up on the carbon fiber tank($ 700.00). So yeah I went into the dark side( pellet color looks like black/silver lol!)

I've heard a lot of good things about that Marauder, could you upload some pics of groupings when you get to try it out? I still don't have any PCP's, but this would be the one I would get if I got a PCP. I've tried one out once and it hit dead on, pellet after pellet in the same hole or right next to it.

My Marauder is on backorder from Pyramid!

Funny, my friend was doing air rifle research independant of knowing I was also looking. He actually called Pyramid and they told him "Well, with all this gun panic, and .22 AW talk, lots of folks have been buying air rifles!"

So I guess it'll be a while before I see my rifle!

Perhaps I spoke too soon, I just got an email from Pyramid saying they have shipped my order! So this week, I should have my Benjamin Marauder!

Now to find a place to shoot it...

I was considering shooting from inside my basement to the back fence, but even that's not much of a long range. Also, not really allowed to shoot air rifles, even in a backyard.

But it will make for some cheap range shooting and camping fun!

I just ordered a hatsan 1000c for $109.00 with a 10% off coupon (works till the end of this month) and no tax = $98... Not bad for a .22 calibered rifle firing at ~1000fps...

Plus I got a bunch of different ammo for also 10% off and no tax!!

Sounds like you're going to have some good trigger time soon! Did you buy a pump to go with it or are you going to use a scuba tank?

I picked up the airpump as well. Pyramid has some "package deal" where you can save a bit. It's really painful paying $200 for a fricken air pump. But I don't have scuba tanks (though I used to dive, it would have been a two-fer if I bought a tank!). I have a friend with tanks, but they are probably 10 years out of certification. And also I'd have to buy the adapter too. So I stuck with the air-pump for "independence". (Why have a gun you need to charge up with tanks that need a dive shop?!)

Though I see that it's like $5-$10 to fill a scuba tank, so it's not a killer.

Ok well than please keep me posted on how it is to use that pump because that's what has held me back from buying a PCP gun is that you have to have a scuba tank, I heard with some of the big bor PCP's that you definitely have to have the tank because it takes way too many pumps otherwise

Almost all my powder burners are collecting dust at this time, with this ammo shortage an airgun is a really good alternative, I recently added a new member to my airgun family, it's a Kricket .25 cal, i love this rifle it's very quiet and damn accurate. I took her for her first hunt a few weeks ago and she did great! Here is a pic

I posted the day I ordered, so .. 4/22 that's last Monday. Then a few days later I got some "Oh, sorry, backordered, out of stock!" then this morning "Your order has shipped".

Maybe someone cancelled an order, or maybe they just got some?

They sent me 3 "out of stock" emails, I wondered if the rifle, the pump or the pellets were OOS, or all 3. Or did 3 seperate people check stock to send my order?

Anyway, it's on the way. I bought the second combo pack from Pyramid air. Marauder, pump, and expensive pellets BUT also $50 off, so that covers the expensive pellets ($25/625) then I ordered some less expensive pellets at about $8-$10/1000 (or per 500, I don't remember).

And I splurged and paid them $10 to check the gun over for function. I think things should work straight from the factory, but if they give it a once over, it's less likely for me to get a lemon.

Now to scrounge up an old fat phonebook...

Ssshhh (( for those guys buying their first fire arm esp .22 and they can't find 22LR , it's too late to stock pile)). For us who just converted or who went back to Air Rifle before they will make Air Rifle an ASSAULT Rifle , its NOT late to stock pile on .20,.22,.25,.9,.357,.45,.50 cal Air Rifle ammunition! My reserve for my .22LR and 223 are way too low to survive an Apocalyptic Zoombie Attack. But my stock piling of the .22 and .25 air rifle ammo are increasing day by day. STOCK PILE NOW BEFORE SOME SENATOR WILL SAY AIR RIFLE IS AN ASSAULT RIFLE!!! and people will start hoarding air rifle ammo!! Its a PARADIGM SHIFT!!

LOL!

So here is my air rifle timeline

6 years old.. Dad buys me a Daisy, but aunt says I'm too young so he hides it for a year. Then he gives it to me WITHOUT any BBs. I played with that thing just popping air to make a sound.

9 or 10, go to Boyscout Jamboree and they have a shooting station ... WOW! Classic crossman 760s on the line. I loved it. I tried so hard to convince my parents to get me one

12 or so, I finally get the Crossman 766. I shoot it in the house, in the yard, in the driveway (!!! The neighbours garage door was full of pellet/bb holes!!!) in my Dad's office and mostly ... at the cottage!

30 years later ... I'm waiting for my Marauder to show up!

That is so true! I'm waiting on these anti-gunners to find out about the fully auto .22 pellet SMG's and decide to label them assault weapons lol, it really wouldn't surprise me if they did something like that

Cool story!

When that happens(California or Nationwide) , when the law abiding citizens can not have a weapon/weapons to defend themselves in their home but the criminals are allowed to have one. Its a sign for me to leave this state or country!

I am not crazy about those "futuristic" looking type firearms or pellet rifles but I gotta say that is one beautiful piece of hardware.

Edit: Just looked that rifle up on the web, that is one pricey pellet rifle. Must be a lot of built in quality there.
