Default Sept. match -EDIT 9/4, pistol classes being broken out again

First, results for the summer match, congrats to the winners! I have attached the results in a spreadsheet since it was 3 months combined, with each month's score counting towards the yearly total, but with one overall winner for the summer in each category. Hopefully it's pretty self explanatory how it's set up, if there's any questions, please shoot me a PM.

Pistol:
15 yd offhand - 10xhobby with a 105
25 yd offhand - 10xhobby with a 51
15 yd benched - 10xhobby with a 122
25 yd benched - 10xhobby with a 54
(it's a sweep!)

Rifle:
25 yd irons - aardwolf with a 245
50 yd irons - usmcchet9296 with a 72
100 yd irons - aarwolf with a 56
50 yd bullseye scoped - covingtonhouse with a 194
50 yd hostage scoped - dattebayo with a 66
100 yd scoped - rwojnilo with a 104.

September match targets below.

Default New rules added!

**************EDIT: I had forgotten that we were changing a few things up this month. Please see new rules below with some minor revisions to the posted classes / groups of shooters.****************

BE SURE TO READ THIS ENTIRE ANNOUNCEMENT AS THERE ARE SOME CHANGES IN THE RULES, TARGETS AND POSTING REQUIREMENTS!!! SEND PM TO MATCH COORDINATOR FOR ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS. ( I know I'm yelling by using all CAPS but I need your attention).

Rules:

Following are the classes of Targets.

Pistol: 15 and 25yd . Offhand and bench rest scored separately. Iron sights, red dot or non-magnifed scope. One winner for 15 yd and 25 yd each offhand and bench rest.

Rifle-Iron Sights: 25yd, 50yd and 100yd Aperture Sights only. This class of shooting is determined by the type of rear sight on the rifle. Any type front sight is allowed as long as there is no magnification.

Rifle Iron Sights: 25yd, 50yd and 100yd Open Rear Sight only. This class of shooting is determined by the type of rear sight on the rifle. Open rear sight of the Buckhorn (notched) or similar type only. Any type of front sight is allowed as long as there is no magnification.

Rifle Scoped: 50yd and 100yd (25yd scoped at the Coordinators discretion). No limit on magnification.

This is an online match. Print all targets at 100%. Colored targets may be printed in grayscale to save on color ink, shoot where and when you want. Annotate on the target the Distance, Score and type of sights used (ie. Scope, Aperature, Open, Red Dot). Take a picture of your target(s) and post in this thread for bragging rights!! Flickr.com and Photobucket.com are two websites where you can host you target pictures and link to your post. Match runs from the 1st day of the month until the last day. Shoot as many targets as you want and post up to two targets for each target class.

Note: If the shot is touching the line, it is scored on the higher number.

I encourage meeting up with other match shooters. Any rimfire firearm is eligible. Shooting from a benchrest, prone, sitting, standing, hood of your car, leaning against a tree is acceptable. Using a rest in which the Rifle/Pistol can be locked down is verboten (ie. can't do that).

Bonus Points

Here is how it will work. This is only on targets that have multiple shots on one target We shoot the targets as normal and add up the scores like normal. The twist is we shoot for groups as well. For example, if we are shooting 5 shots on each target. If none of the 5 bullet holes are touching you get no bonus points. If two are touching you get 2 bonus points. If three are touching you get 3 bonus points on up to 5 bonus points for each target.

Finally for any questions just send a PM to the Match Co-ordinator for this month and he/she will get right back to you. Also feel free to send a PM with feedback/complaints/errors. Comments about the matches that are posted within the Match Thread will not be responded to, use PM only. Limit posts in the Match Thread to Target Posts and kudos to other shooters. These matches are based on “Gentlemen's/Ladie's Honor” so go shoot and have fun.

Make sure for each target indicate your total score and if not already indicated on the target note the distance shot and what type of sights. Ex: Score =xxx, Open or Aperture Sights, Scope, Red Dot. No fair shooting iron sight targets with a scope for score. )

Now on to the September match.

Pistol: we will use the same targets for offhand and bench rest shooting. Mark your targets accordingly.
15 yd Pistol: use 50 yd irons target. Shoot 5 shots per bull (10 shots total), score accordingly.
25 yd Pistol: use 100 yd irons target. Shoot 10 shots, score accordingly.

Rifle: we will use the same target for blade style and aperture style sights, aperture sights will be scored separately from blade style sights. Mark your targets accordingly.
Irons:
we have 2 targets for 25 yd irons this month. the first is a standard bullseye target, the second is a silhouette timed target.
25 yd irons: use 25 yd irons target. Shoot 3 shots per bull (18 total). Score accordingly. Center is 10, then as marked.
25 yd irons silhouette target, timed. 1 minute (mad minute); shots in round bull count as 10, all else zero. total score in 1 minute.
50 yd irons: use 50 yd irons target. Shoot 5 shots per bull (10 total). Score accodingly.
100 yd irons: use 100 yd irons target. Shoot 10 shots, score accordingly.

Got out to shoot today. Shot the 25 and 50yd irons, one minute 25yd target and 50 yd scoped target. While I was not too keen on the one minute 25yd target I found it to be a lot of fun, especially as I was using a single shot rifle. In fact in was my favorite target of the day. Only got off 20 shots, all but one was a hit.

Scores:

25yd Irons-184
25yd 1 minute-190 or 207 if touching shots count.
50yd Irons-104
50yd Scope- 154

And then there was the surprise in the afternoon when I got home. 20 full minutes of .50 caliber hail. Got 1.4" of rain as well in 1 hour.

Yes, bonus points count on the minute target too. That's really good shooting, especially for a single shot! 95% hit ratio with 3 seconds between shots! Glad you enjoyed it. The other targets are equally impressive, as is the pictures of the hail storm - I would say I would love some of that here, but I need to get a new roof put on first.

Izzy - to confirm so I know what class to put you in, you were shooting aperture sights, correct?

We, like most areas, needed the rain. I have lived here for 3 years now and we have never had hail like it was today. Strange that it hailed but even more was the time that it came down and with some serious wind as well. I was concerned about my 3 cars in the driveway but none were damaged. All the plants and flowers took a real beating, especially my wife's roses, she's sick about it.

Good luck in the match this month.

So if I am reading this right, we now only have 2 pistol classes and 8 rifle classes. How is this going to work on the yearly overall points total, sure looks like it favors the rifle shooters now.

I honestly don't think the yearly overall points total was even thought about when this revision was made. Offhand and bench rest targets will continue to be scored separately. Thanks for bringing this to light.

Thanks for fixing that.
Lazyme and I are heading out to Sac Valley on Saturday, anyone care to join us ?? I know nobody shoots pistols here but they will let you shoot rifles out there. They have a great 50 yard rimfire silhouette range that is a blast. lol

Shot the 100yd Scoped target today. Score -96. CZ UltraLux, Weaver T-24 scope and Eley Target ammo. Had a Remington .308 on one side and a Winchester .400 Magnum on the other. Had to shoot between the muzzle blasts, especially the .400 Magnum. Off on a one month RV trip next Monday. Have fun shooting.

I think this is my first time participating this year. Nice to try it out again.
Shot the 50yd iron, 50yd scoped and 25ys iron. Wanted to do 100yd but didn't have enough time. Hopefully before the end of the month.

I shot several of each but only posting the highest scores.

50 yard scoped
Score: 157

50 yard iron
Score: 105

25 yard iron removed

Thumbs up Sept Rifle match targets

Here are my targets for the rimfire match. We went out to Sac Valley and it was a great day, but it got a little windy in the late afternoon. I shot the Iron Sights with my Mossberg S 42 M with the O M 22 Aperture Sights and the scoped targets with my old Marlin 60 with a 3x9x40 scope on it. I think it's funny that I shot better groups with the iron sights and better ammo than my scooped Marlin.

50 yard iron 98 aperture
100 yard iron 99 aperture
50 yard scooped 144
100 yard scoped 71

I check my target after each shot. At 50 yards the point of aim is 12 o clock at the 5 ring because my gun is zero'd at 25 yards. I think the top 5 shots are cleaner because my eyes are rested and the barrel is cool. The bottom 5 is a hotter barrel and I can really tell my eyes are getting fatigued because the crisp clean target picture becomes fuzzy and distorted. It sucks getting old !!!

Thanks Izzy.

Nice shooting guys.

mrrabbit, I was at Chabot on Saturday. There's always some screaming from the range master there.
Love going to my friend's house in truckee, we shoot 5 minutes from the house...

Thanks for the heads up. Need to remove my 25td entry...

25-yard (aperture): 191 (the second target was scored 189). Third time on 9/28 was 188.

50-yard scoped: 161 (the second target was scored 156). Tried again on 9/28 and shot 159, 152, and 157.

Closer look at left bull on 50-yard scoped for group bonus (I scored it a 5 but please feel free to correct it):

I have some 15 & 25 yard targets printed out for pistol. Someone needs to give you a challenge.

Maybe I'll go do that right now.

Finally got out on the last possible weekend. Decided to shoot the pistol targets, too. Used my H&R 903. My dad got it for me for Christmas when I was 14. Probably, the third time I've shot it in the last 20 years. (Reminded me why I shoot rifle. But hey, you don't get better if you don't try, right?)

Weather was overcast and went from pretty windy to really windy. According to the forcast, just in time to dump 6 inches of rain on my highpower match tomorrow morning.

Pistol (revolver) 25 yard
Bench 65
Offhand 62

H&R 903 - CCI Blazer

Actually did a little better than I expected. Close scores so probably just basics like my hold more than anything holding me back. Need to shoot more handgun.

Pistol 15 yard
Bench 56
Offhand 54

H&R 903 - CCI Blazer

Yes, on that last one I missed the paper twice! Again, bench didn't help a whole lot.

Rifle Iron (bench)
25 yard Aperture 185

Kimber M82G - CCI Blazer

Shot the cheap ammo, definately not as consistent as the better stuff but don't think it hurt much at this range. Could tell better if it hadn't been so windy. Backer was swinging enough that while sighted on a top bull the lower bull would swing up out the top of the front aperture. Timed it for when the wind died down.

Rifle Iron (NRA Smallbore-style - prone w/ sling)
50 yard Aperture
100 yard Aperture

Kimber M82G - Federal Target

As promised, I shot these two prone. Also switched to better ammo. I don't think the Kimber likes it as well as the Wolf MT but in general standard velocity ammo seems to work better in it at 50 and 100 yards than high velocity. Re: the 100 yard target, did I mention it was windy? The range was getting close to closing so I favored speed a little bit over waiting for lulls in the wind and paid for it. I found this target very difficult to see, even harder than the "1000yd" International Mini Palma. (Probably should have printed it gray scale, my color printer is out of whack and red prints as orange.)

You will see them before midnight tonight. I cant give you extra time to go to the range and shoot better scores once you see mine.

I shot 25Y pistol bench and 15Y pistol offhand last night with some good scores. I need to print a few more targets and shoot the 25Y offhand & the 15Y bench.

Wow those are all some really good looking targets. I got 30 minutes out today, first time all month, what with work, travel, trying to get a new roof instal lined up (starting tomorrow with the tear down!). Pretty crappy shooting, but a score is a score. I will admit that during the mad minute target when I switched from remington bulk box to Winchester m22 that I wished I had been shooting it all along as my gun seems to like it a lot more. There's always next month!

25 yd rifle irons
Benched
10/22 with tech sights
Score: 144

25 yd rifle irons
10/22 with tech sights
Mad minute target
Score: 28
(MUCH respect to izzy for his results with a single shot! - I felt like I was seriously rushing to get off the 40 shots that I got off, can't imagine using a single shot for this).

I used the mad minute target to help sight in my wife's new SR22 rifle. I didnt have a stop watch but I put 20-30 rounds into it and hit most of the "bad guys". It was a fun target and I should have shoot by the rules for a score.

Thumbs up SEPTEMBER 2013 TARGETS

So I finally got out to the indoor range to shoot my Pistol Match targets It was great to see that we had some pistol shooters out this month.

15 YARD PISTOL OFFHAND 100
15 YARD PISTOL BENCH 107
25 YARD PISTOL OFFHAND 89
25 YARD PISTOL BENCH 104

Attachment 269078

Attachment 269079

My 25 yard pistol bench target is the test target I used to adjust my scope, it was shooting a little low, the first 3 shots, so I adjusted it up and shot the rest of the group, all 7 in the 10 ring. I then found out that was my last target, oopps.
