In past years hunting: .22, 12 ga. and .50 flintlock. No problem experienced.

I did on Friday then realized I didn't put my ear plugs in. Was firing .556 so it really wasn't an issue. 7.62 x 51 or .308 WIN I'd have noticed right away.

What was that you said? My tinnitus is acting up. Lol
Wear your ear protection people, or you'll be able to make your own white noise.

Back on the Virginia farm, young and very VERY stupid, shot .44 mag, .45 acp, .357 mag, 9mm, etc etc all without ear protection... as a result, I have to live with permanent loud tinnitus.

As Shelby Stanga the Swamp Man advises: "Don't EVER do it!"

When I was a kid, me and a friend fired a 357 mag. No bang, just a ring LOL

I've fired .22LR, 12ga and .30-06 without hearing protection while hunting. The aught 6 is fu**ing LOUD and leaves my ears ringing. No issues with the shotgun or the .22.

That being said, I fired my G19 once without hearing protection. The sharp bark of the 9mm was more painful than the .30-06! I'll never do that again unless it's absolutely necessary.

The worst case was when I had a negligent discharge with my AR-15 in my living room. Killed my glorious Sony Trinitron and wounded myself at the same time.

Of course, anyone that hunts has. It sucks. Worst I've experienced was from a muzzle braked 30-06, it was a pig hunt and it was a rifle is bought for my wife and not really had time to get used to, but my rifle had an issue a few days before. I miffed my first shot, it ran. In the end I got the pig, 5 rounds though. Took a long time for my ears to stop ringing.

Second worse, walking around with family in mountains one day and my brother starts plinking at a large branch/log sticking out if the ground w a 22. I thought it'd be funny to blast it with my 41mag Blackhawk. That really was stupid and sucked.

I'll never shoot again with ear protection, even hunting. A self defense situation ears be damned, better alive and deaf.

Fired about twenty .38 Special rounds from my Marlin .357 mag/.38 spl 1894CS out in the AZ desert before I realized I wasn't wearing ear protection. A friend was standing about 5 feet to my left firing his .357 mag/.38 spl Henry. The fact that I got off that many rounds without even noticing I hadn't put on my ear protection is probably due to two factors: 1) hearing loss from many years off riding loud motorcycles, and 2) degraded hearing that comes with being close to 75 years old. In any event, no short or long term effects.

No physical pain, but i do have tinnitus-severe, i hear a high pitch low volume sound 24/7-sometimes at high volume, sometimes its music/voices (no not the crazy voices lol), even when trying to sleep...
VA hospital already approved and recommended me to get one of those hearing aids that attaches to my skull....im under 40, so i said hell no.,
when i drive and the back window is open, my ears canal feel like its going to a wind tunnel at high speed or something...
when i shoot, i feel fine, no extra ringing or stuff like that, no pain, etc. (but ranges i went req. those "am i a pilot?" Hearing protection.)
But, after living with it for so long, i feel normal..lol.

Sorry for late reply.

it was a fun moment shooting 81mm mortar in a mortar platoon situated in-between a m1 abram brigade, 60mm mortar platoon, and 120mm platoon, firing over 400 fire for effect rounds per mortar as the tanks fired continuously for almost 30mins, as we leveled mountain of 2 grid squares in ft. Irwin, i think 2 squads of 4 in our platoon went without hearing protection.
