Default Pistol grip shotguns

Shotguns with pistol grip and shoulder stock.
Who owns one?
Thoughts?
Pics?
I'm in the market for one but have never owned one.

My shooting buddy always brings out his Benelli M2 when we shoot shotguns. I love how that thing shoots. I also like the pistol grip, easier to maneuver. I'm considering M4 for the next shotgun purchase.

i've always been partial to the mossberg 500/590 models for their utter reliability.

recently updated my old one to this one, already kitted out by Mossberg (Scorpion).

A pistol grip on a shotgun With the the shoulder stock is fine even if it looks a little Tactical.

But in my opinion a pistol grip without a shoulder stock on a shotgun it's not the way to go. It might be fine with the smaller gauges but my personal experience tells me it just doesn't work effectively with 12 gauge.

Interesting.

I have a SD pistol grip 12 guage which my wife loves because she can put the grip on her hip and go to town.

Beautiful, mossberg/remington are my options. More into mossberg cause the safety location. Is that the 18in one?

I like my Mossberg 500 with the birdshead grip (Shockwave). The standard pistol grip is uncomfortable after long strings of fire. I've handled PG with a collapsible stock and very comfortable, just prefer a standard stock if I'm going full length.

I have one, the Mossberg 500 tactical persuader. I do enjoy shooting it and like the safety on the tang. It has the heat shield and parkerized finish. There are tons of accessories for it. I’m not into the finish, but it gets the job done for either recreational range shooting or HD.

I have the 870 tactical pistol grip version without the shoulder stock. After few bangs on my first range trip.. it was enough for me to put on a magpul stock

I love my Hk Benelli M1 Super 90 Combat, but I'd love it just as much with a ComforTech stock (no PG).

Pistol grip shotguns without stocks can be fun if you're just shooting at stagnant paper or blasting Hollywood style / from the hip against things that aren't life and death involved.

May I suggest next time anyone goes shooting they throw or roll , two or more clays and using their pistol grip shotgun to see how your accuracy is on moving targets.
I think you'll find your accuracy suffers greatly compared to a shoulder stocked shotgun and even possibly compared to a semi-automatic pistol or revolver that has things like sights, no need for pumping action, etc.

And if you practice with your pistol gripped shotgun All day long, like we used to, you might even have a little bit of pain in your hand area. (It was never really bad and it always went away for me.)

Of course I'm going off my personal experience using the first generation of Mossberg designed Factory pistol grips.

I know they've come a long way since then, like the one pictured above, so the minor pain issue might no longer keep you from training all day but I do still think your accuracy, even remembering it's a shotgun with some spread, is going to suffer especially when engaging moving targets.

The Benelli m4 comes stock in that configuration (pistol grip + shoulder stock). I wasn't sure how I was going to like it but I like it just fine. They do make a regular field stock for it but I've got no desire to swap it out.

My 870 has a traditional stock and I like that too. And I wouldn't change the 870 to a pistol grip. I get if some people have a preference of one over the other. But I just look at it as part of the character of each gun and like both for what they are. YMMV.

If the gun has a cross bolt safety that you can engage and die engage while
Maintaining a firing grip- no issue

The Mossberg makes a horrible pistol grip as you cannot reach the safety

I like pistol grips on rifles, but for some reason, not on shotguns.

Shotguns IMHO seem much faster and better with a traditional stock.

I'm not the only one that feels that way. If there was a benefit to pistol grips on shotguns, that's what competitors would use. They'll use anything that gives them an advantage. You'll notice they don't use them.

Maverick 88 Security, Blackhawk Knoxx Gen3 Breachersgrip, and Adaptive Tactical EX stock (same stock as on the Mossberg in that Turner's link above). Little easier on the shoulder (Breachergrip is spring-loaded), and stock is adjustable. Definitely prefer the Mossberg's safety on the trigger guard for this configuration.

I have a Stevens 320 with the pistol grip stock. Works good for $200.00. I recommend it.

With a SD shotgun your not trying to break clays. Your firing a a man sized target from a very close range.

I'd be willing to bet my wife can get the pistol grip shotgun to her hip and a shot fired center mass at 10 yards faster then you can shooting from the shoulder. just saying.

Personally I prefer a handgun, but a pistol gripped shotgun can be an effective SD tool.

At "very close range", the "pattern" isn't much bigger than the handgun.

For SD, I like the AR style (pistol grip) stock. It does allow a one hand hold while you're doing something else with your weak hand (directing loved ones, picking up phone, clearing an obstacle, etc). Also make the long gun more difficult to take away from you.

The Moss 500's safety is in the wrong spot for this style stock. Does dictate your method of storage. Personally, I keep my 870 (pistol gripped stock), with safety off, one on the lifter plate, barrel down. Picking up the gun, the weak hand goes to the forearm and automatically closes the bolt, loading the chamber. The 500 would work in that method as well.

Pistol grips on shotguns?

Semi auto? Yes. Pump? No.

I like the leverage I can get sans pistol grip on a pump shotgun. Pistol grip on a semi auto feels better for me to maintain control during recoil cycle. YMMV.

pistol grip and stock on a shotgun yes. pistol grip only no.

I have a mossberg 590 with the scorpion kit thats up for sale. It has the extended action release lever on it so that you can get that initial pump without changing your grip.

This is an excellent video for explaining pistol grip only versus traditional stock. If you're looking at a shotgun with a pistol grip AND traditional stock, it wouldn't apply. That configuration is not my cup of tea, but have at it.
