Default multiple entries in the bound book

When you guys have multiple identical entries (except serial numbers of course), such as receiving a shipment of lowers from a manufacturer, do you guys write in all the information for each entry or do you write the manufacturer for the first one then draw a line down showing same entry for each additional or something along those lines? Ive been writing it all out for each entry because I wasnt sure if we could do any shortcuts . Time to ask the more experienced.

Thanks,
Brett

Drawing a line is a generally accepted practice, but you never know if you might get a ball-breaking auditor that might call you out on it. We did it back in the day at my dad's shop and we also did at another shop I worked at.

I use an electronic bound book, so I don't have this problem...

we just ran into this as well. We filled out one entire sheet of our book, minus serials, and then ran copies, so all info was there but the serial. Then, filled in serial numbers...

So you guys are doing the lines indicating repeat of prior entry and haven't had any issues.

For years this is how we would enter multiple firearms from the same place. About six years ago we got slapped by ATF for doing it. It was explained to me by ATF that after Katrina they could only recover partial bound books from New Orleans. They had tons of paged with just a line, but were missing the sheet before to tell them where it came from. Thus..I had to start entering all the info every time. it sucks and my hand still hurts from the ATF slapping.

With this explanation from the ATF I wonder if they would be happy if instead of just lines from a previous each page has at least one entry explaining what it all is then lined. That way a single recovered page still has the pertinent info.

ATF told me no. I had to list it with every entry. Trust me I tried every way out I could find. I HATE writing the same info over and over.

You can have multiple bound books, so you have an option of creating a bound book just for multiple purchases. Use a spreadsheet to generate it (examples have been posted, I have one on my web site) and just copy everything and then print it out.

I am switching to the excel sheet Wes has and then just print it out for a binder. The auto fill helps a ton as well as the cut and paste drag and drop etc.

We use an electronic book specifically fo this reason. With hundreds of lowers going in and out mistakes are bound to happen and its a major pita to have to rewrite the same thing over and over. With an E-book its a snap!!

AND ATF SAYS ITS a NO-NO to use the line method. No slapping here!!

I was told by a local shop that my hand written bound book is going to get me shut down. I am sure that someday they will inspect me and I will find out. Whatever happens, happens. I do the best I can here.

That is funny. I guess they don't realize that hand written is the basis for how it is done.

I guess no one told my inspectors that it was an issue since neither of them said anything to me about it, nor has other people at the BATF made an issue of it.

I guess you learn something new every day :-).

I think they were trying to scare me. The brick and mortor stores aren't my biggest fans around here.

I suspect that you are giving them more credit than they deserve as they might actually believe that.
