Drew that's a great job for your first build. What's the second gonna look like? Cause you can't build Just one.

Saltworks M5 Receiver set (Obviously haha)
Magpul PRS FDE Stock
Magpul MIAD Gen1.1 Type 1 Grip
Red Barn Armory BCG
DPMS Charging Handle
DPMS LPK
DPMS 20" HBAR Barrel
Guntec 15" FDE Keymod Handguard
YHM lo pro gas block
WMD Nitromet rifle length gas tube
YHM Slant Break
Primary Arms 4-14x44 FFP DMR ACSS Reticle Scope
Primary Arms Scope Mount

I think that was it. It was kind of a budget build for my first.

So I need to take a chill on the gun buying/building front and work on getting a reloading setup started. HAHA

Default Tungsten vs Disruptive Grey

I swear when I look at the pictures of the M5 lowers with the different colors ranging from burnt bronze to black to FDE to titanium, tungsten, disruptive grey...specifically disruptive grey vs tungsten... in that one picture with the receivers lined up like dominoes it looks like disruptive grey is darker than tungsten.

Yet, when I see pictures of the completed rifles, sometimes tungsten looks darker than disruptive grey (in what appears to be similar lighting conditions)

What gives?

Is one more of a metallic color that plays tricks on the eyes depending on lighting? Sighs...

It isn't just lighting. Different cameras are used. Different image sensor, different software, different color calibration.

This is something that has kept me from placing an order.
I inquired about a visit to see samples and was politely told no.

Ok guys let me try and clear this up a little as lighting will definitely have an effect.

Tungsten is pure H-237 Tungsten.

Disruptive Grey is 6 ML of H-237 Tungsten to 2 ML of H-146 Graphite Black.

This is Disruptive gray under high intensity LED lighting.
[IMG][/IMG]
This is the same rifle with a black back round and no LED lighting.
[IMG][/IMG]

This is Tungsten.
[IMG][/IMG]
This is Tungsten under LED lighting.
[IMG][/IMG]

However, I did have an individual on Calguns request dark Disruptive gray.

The show is June 27th-28th. I really want to see a set in FDE and possibly fill out the paperwork and arrange with my FFL while at the show

My buddy purchased a set recently through lokey and has been kind enough to allow me to practice my cerakoting! Here's the set getting ready to get sprayed. I will hopefully have everything sprayed and baked by tomorrow and by tomorrow night I should have it assembled. As long as he can come over so I can show him how to assemble it.
Hats off by the way to both lokey firearms and Salt Works rifles for being great shops to deal with. They took really good care of my buddy on his purchase. I highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for good guys to deal with. Pay no attention to my mess of a garage lol

So I ended up mostly completing it today. When you get rolling you get rolling lol. Cerakoted upper and lower and rail in magpul fde. Sand blasted the stainless rainier barrel and coated it in armor black along with the brake. Pay no attention to how the scope is mounted when my buddy picks it up tonight he can set it too his liking. I couldn't wait to assemble it so I just did it. Lol.

Not intended as a jab at the manufacturer, legitimately curious: What makes these special or desirable so to say vs a different 308 AR (which most companies that offer an AR15 seem to also offer by now)? I haven't heard of these before but they look nice.

So far I see that these are billet, have an ambi bolt release, and can be purchased already Cerakoted. I also assume that like many other manufacturers, you can use AR15 parts in them for the lower (especially the trigger)?

lightweight, cool design, great customer service, good price...

not many other manufactures have all those attributes (and others that I'm sure will be in subsequent posts)...

Those are beauties. Can anyone tell me what the handguards those are and the top one looks like a min-can on it. What is it? A compensator of some sort?

They appear very light weight... Under 10oz for the rails?

This is a fair question. One of the biggest differences besides the aesthetics is our no BS guarantee and commitment too you the customer. Also, our new builders set includes lower, upper and 15" handguard for $540, and I'm now offering the DROS at our facility.

Also, I have a complete SWR-M5 (.308) 16" or 18" rifle in the works for 1289.56

Thanks for the responses. So lightweight with a good price in addition to billet, ambi bolt release + safety, and cerakoted (option). Glad to see someone found a way to address the weight which IMO was one of the bigger drawbacks of the AR308. Also glad to see cost/price was managed given that seemed like another big barrier for spread of the AR308.

Now last question - I realize the AR308 market isn't uniform on everything, but how much of the Salt Works Rifle can use "standard" parts or rather, how many parts are proprietary or of limited availability (ex bolt, bcg, triggers, w/e else). My interest is definitely piqued.

I am almost done building my AR on the Saltworks platform... Not a single special part was needed... Just make sure you buy DPMS pattern and a low profile for the rail.

My build. Need to cerakote my handguard burnt bronze and she'll be finished. Thinking about swapping out the A2 for a carbine tube and stock. Not sure yet.

*Edit: sorry about pic being sideways.

Howdy guys! I have been following this thread for a while, and I hope to build soon.

My question is that pricing seems all over the place in regards to barrels and bolts, along with specialty gas blocks.

I am familiar with AR-15 pricing, but can anyone give me a ball park on what I should be paying with a mid level 18-20" barrel and BCG for .308/7.62X51.

Also, is their any chambering like a .223 wylde chamber for the AR-15 in regards to .308/7.62x51?

Thanks for your help!

Midrange for barrels is around $250-350. Check out Faxon, Black hole, Mega and Rainier arms. For your bolt carrier group check out Aim surplus. They offer a few different coating options and are very reasonably priced. I have three of their 308 BCG's that have been trouble free for about 1500 rounds all together.
