Need a solid, drama-less FFL around Oceanside/Vista to transfer a handgun
I haven't done an FFL in some time - but I am purchasing a little .22 revolver (Ruger LCR22) from an online vendor in Utah, and I need a quick easy FFL in North County. Any suggestions?
Also, can somebody please bring me up to speed again on all the FFL costs involved? If the gun itself is $450, I wonder how much extra the DROS fees, shipping, tax etc, will cost. Thanks |

Look into Parallax Tactical. I live a little farther south but have heard they are very reasonably priced and easy going. Pretty much anywhere is gonna be busy these days, and they have a few ars on consignment, so understand there may be a wait.

Check out Wiser Owl Tactical on Miramar Rd. $35 transfer fee that includes DROS. (Most places are going to charge more than $35 for the transfer and then charge you for the DROS on top of that) Its the same fee they charge for PPT which I have used them for in the past. Totally painless no wait and the staff/owner there is super awesome.

Thanks for the help guys.
Interesting - I just called Iron Sights in Oceanside, and they told me they will NOT do a DROS transfer from an online store, and the lady also said that nobody in San Diego is doing online transfers right now? So I guess that means new purchases (in-store) and/or PPT's only? I find it funny that she can speak for all of San Diego with that statement. Honestly - on a personal note - I was turned off to Iron Sights a few years ago, and this most recent phone call was a bit irritating with her tone, especially considering how respectful I was, but I digress... National Police Supply in Vista is the way to go. Small shop, and like everyone they have more work than they can handle right now, but Sean is a no BS kinda guy. You ask his opinion, he gives it to you. You just want to transfer a gun and that's it, he will do that too. (760) 599-4410 is their office. Send me a message and I will give you Sean's cell number.

Some folks were giving you the wrong impression. They were talking about Private Party Transfer, not online purchase. Most gun shops and shooting ranges don't handle online purchase. Even for those do, they will charge some ridiculous fee on top of the DROS. They see online purchases as their competitions, so why should they? One thing to keep in mind is that by California law (passed about two years ago), FFLs are obligated to collect sales tax and that is calculated over the gun price + shipping + FFL's fee. The DROS itself, by law, is not taxable, everything else is. |

I bought my p226 online back in early December, had it shipped to Gussler's in Santee and didn't have a problem. Gussler's isn't a store, only an FFL and light gunsmith, so I can't imagine they've stopped online transfers unless they wanted to go hungry.
Sorry that my earlier recommendation for Iron Sights didn't work out for you.

Unless I am misunderstanding this, this is NOT a PPT. It is an FFL transfer from out of state. I don't think Iron Sights does this (unless Aleta has changed her policy recently). Quantico Tactical does.

Iron sights. Did my PPT there and no problems or whatsoever.
Edit: For purchases from the internet, use Paul Johnson in Escondido. Just did one as well and he's pretty cool guy. The seller actually made a mistake by sending me a compact model of the firearm I am buying but Paul shipped the gun back and now finally was able to do my DROS last Thursday.

Another guy here for National Police supply. Serious the best place to get your FFL needs done. Great guy who is completely drama free. been using him for a couple years now. Been listening to his advice for longer.

Direct Action Solutions. They'll charge you tax for the weapon though. They're a great group of guys though. Bought a TRP Half rail online and transferred it through them.
