Heading to AFR today, planning to arrive 0830, shooting begins at 0915 sharp! Just got back to LA a few days ago, been dying to get out to the range.

Also heading to Oak Tree THIS WEEKEND, pls see Oak Tree thread.

I am planning to go tomorrow. I tinkered with my rifles a little, so I want to put them on paper. I am endeavoring to go to Pala on Monday, but when I wake up at 5 a.m. and think of the drive, I normally roll over and go back to sleep.

I think he has a .22lr clone of about every 5 figure gun you can buy. He pulled his gun cart next to my bench, and I see a big old Barrett .50, and I am thinking, ****! This is going to be a nuisance...

What type of rifle is it that needs an optic?

We've spoken before. You are pretty recognizable with your mega guns. If possible, I will be setting up on the far end of the rifle side to minimize my exposure to the tactical AR-15 range ninjas that'll probably break my target.

I don't remember specifically. Generally, I take at least a bolt or two plus a semi for blasting. It just depends on my mood. ASR is too easy; it's like shooting fish in the barrel, so I mix things up a bit for a challenge.

I got an AR-15. I know, so typical, lol. So I'm always at the limited right side rifle benches. I hit the steel plates there no prob, at least 4/5. Off-hand zero, havn't bought a sandbag or lead sled yet.

Then, it must have sights...there is no need to buy sandbag or a lead sled. You don't need an optic; regular old AR-15 sights are plenty.

BTW, it was extremely windy today.

Yes, I've got Magpul backup iron sights on it. I can do a 2 MOA group at 50 yds. It's hard for me to see the bullseye at 100 yrs though. I just know I can hit the target. I hear you on the wind. I was there on the 15th and the wind was crazy. I'd assume 15-20 mph wind gusts. Everyone's cardboard pistol target flew off the wooden frames 3-4 times. I had to staple my pistol target to the wood so it would stay.

Does anyone wish that there were closer steel targets on the pistol range (blue benches)? The closest ones are 35 yds.

No, 35 yards is enough. Any closer to 25 yards would be pushing safety concerns like lead ricochet. They're good where they are.
You just gotta practice more, and practice the right habits. As in: dry fire, dry fire, dry fire, stance, shoulder alignment, arms elbows locked correctly, proper grip, aiming/sight alignment (focus on front sight, rear sight and target may be a lil blurred), breathing maybe, definitely squeeze not jerk trigger control. I think that's about it.
Honestly, when you can consistently hit the 10 ring at the 7 yard paper pistol target on the green benches - you'll be smiling ear to ear when you move over to the blue benches. Ping! Ping! Ping! Ping! Ping! miss. Ping! Lol
Lastly, google search for something called a "pistol correction target". Print it out and shoot at it, it'll guide you to the 10 ring
I'd post a link but I'm in bed and I dont wanna get out lol

Ok, I'll bring 4 and 6 inch barreled wheelguns. Got .38 spl target loads and a half box of my old school smoking-hot-primer-cup-flowing-like-butter reloads. Will be there around 10-ish. I'll be wearing a Molon Labe T-shirt. Got spotting scope and rangefinder also.

Iron maidens at angeles?
I wonder if we chip in for a target will the management allow us to hang one out there. The targets at 500 and 600 are getting boring.
Also i don't know the size of those targets.

can someone with a range finder verify the ranges of the targets? I'd be interested.
i don't think the 600 yards are correct, they are a bit closer .
