Default Could this be on of those lugers made for US trials in the early 1900s?

If not, what the heck is it, pretty cool that it has the presidential seal on it

It is a DWM 1906 "American Eagle" Luger. They were made specifically for export to the US commercial market.

Thanks! I feel like the serial number is too high to be an original, looks like it is supposed to be under 8000 but this one is 51xxx

Those guys on Lugerforums will know The source for info. I found my WW1/police/WW2 survivor there.

If I remember right only two were submitted for testing in .45 Auto for the US Government. Serial Numbers 1 and 2.

One still exists today and likely the other was destroyed as it was never found. My mind is getting more feeble everyday though,LOL

Of course we know the 1911 Won out.

as others have said, american eagle luger. serial number is in the right range -- probably around 1913 or slightly before. usually around $2-$3K in nice condition.
