Default Slightly Bubba'ed '57 Colt Gold Cup National Match 1911

Still in jail, 1957 Colt GCNM 1911 pistol. A previous owner, a '60s North Carolina prison warden, had his name engraved in script right over the model on the left side of the slide.
He also switched-out the Accro sights for some S&W? revolver sights.
I'm supposed to get the original grips from the seller to replace the '50s Franzite thumb rest grips on it now.
My first 1911. I like it even with its greatly diminished collector value. Serial 1150NM out of the first 1800 made.

Close up of the crime. Cant wait to shoot it. Haven't shot a 1911 since army medic training in 1969.

That engraving is not bad. For a shooter gun you’ll likely forget it is there unless you are staring directly at it.

I agree with the previous post, at least the PO had the engraving done professionally and didn't use an electric pencil after having a few adult beverages.

The S&W rear sights were a popular "upgrade" for Gold Cups well into the late '70s and early '80s. The Colt rear sights were notorious for having the rear pin walk out.

Kings was big into installing SW sights on 1911 slides.

Thanks for the info on the sights. Everybody needs at least one 1911. Just because.
I overpaid at $900 though.

Congrats OP! A start of a family heirloom. It will be a weapon to be enjoyed by you and your future family members. Shoot it and look out for more. What a memorable first 1911!

With the sight mod and Franzite grips, it probably wasn't a safe queen. I can shoot it without worrying about devaluing it .
