The world changes entirely when the lights go out. This low light training course is designed to teach you the skills required to operate a flashlight in a critical dynamic incident. We will give you the skills to move throughout your surroundings. Broken down into a skills instruction portion and scenario based application of learned skills. We will cover several different types of flash lights and different types of grip and search methods. This course will focus primarily with handguns, we’ll touch on the use of rifles and shotguns.

LOW LIGHT TRAINING REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:

• Modern Working Handgun (9mm - 45acp - approved by instructor)
• Hand Held Flashlight and/or weapon mounted light (both if possible)
• Note Pad & Pen/Pencil
• 400 rounds of ammunition
• Three magazines or speed loaders (minimum)
• Magazine pouches
• Belt holster (Strong side, Open, Concealed, Duty or Tactical)
• Hearing protection (electronic preferred)
• Eye protection (Clear or Amber)
• Base Ball Style Cap (recommended)
• Personal Water Supply
• Weather Appropriate Gear (Rain gear / Cold Weather gear (seasonal) sun screen, etc.)
• Clothing suited to strenuous activity as well as being seasonally appropriate (no shorts)
• Knee and elbow pads (optional)
• Gloves (optional)
• An open mind

This is a six hour course during which the student will be instructed on proper low light/no light search technique and threat assessment. If you own a firearm, you need to seek out low light training and be able to operate in darkness. Dynamic situations are often hard to process in the moment, a fact that is compounded by darkness. Proper use of a flash light can often diffuse a situation and prevent an escalation to deadly force.

Topics to be covered during this highly sought after course on instruction.

• Human Physiology - How the body processes what we see in varying lighting conditions; how to overcome the loss of visual acuity in low light/no light situations; color spectrum, etc.
• Flashlight Selection – Which brand? Which features should I select in a flashlight and/or weapon light? What is a lumen? Switching/activation methods; battery selection; actual runtime; Desirable lumen rating; mounting methods (1913/Picatinny or Universal).
  
• Light Mounts – Integrated forends; larue mounts; IWC mounts; Mossie Midnight Mount, etc.
  
• Light Location – placement and “barrel shadow”
  
• Preventative Maintenance – how to prolong your light’s life and ensure it is always ready when you may need it most.
  
• Carry Methods & Equipment – light selection and use for CCW holders and the general public.
  
• Weapon Mounted Illumination Techniques (rifle, shotgun, and handgun)
  
• Handheld Illumination Techniques – used in conjunction with a handgun; to include the Harries, Surefire/Rogers, FBI Modified, Ayoob, and Neck Index.
