Default Why do we care about new gun control laws?

We already leave in a rotten state where we are limited to 10 round magazines, have to use bullet buttons, have to submit to background checks and register our guns. Why do we care if the rest of the country has to as well? Unless you plan on moving out of Cali pretty soon.

So we struggle in our battle so we should not care how the rest of the war finally goes?!!!!!

DUDE!

How the big picture goes impacts us here!

If some of this BS is struck down nationally by the SCOTUS you realize that benefits us here right?

The more laws that get put on the books the more laws, and therefore time and work, we have to put into getting our rights back.
I'd rather just overthrow CA anti gun laws then CA and Federal laws.

If the second, because fighting this **** here will be easier if we don't have another pile of **** pressing on us from outside.

what fantasy land are you living in? We have had these laws here in CA since what? 1989? the challenges in supreme court are going nowhere and if the Terminator himself didnt overturn any gun laws, good luck finding another CA politician who will. Face it, NO ONE is going to loosen gun laws in a huge state like CA, especially in a highly populated metro area like LA and OC. We are screwed regardless.

And if the bills magically got knocked down in Cali, do you not think the Federal Legislation would affect us? Note that a majority of what these states are doing is just taking Federal laws and making them worse. If all those bills got passed at the Federal level, Cali would make their state bills even worse because "The Federal laws aren't enough".

Did you not watch the gun laws being shot down on the national level yesterday? If not, please see this thread: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=746616

I don't know about you, but I was writing, emailing, and trying to be active at both the national level AND the local/CA level. Now that the national level seems to be positively resolved (or close to it) for now I'm free to focus all of my efforts on the local/CA level. Will it do any good? I live in Santa Clara county, so probably not much. I would fully expect that the CA situation will only be solved in the courts.

I guess I'm not clear on what your expectations are. Do you think someone will wave a magic wand and this will all be over? If you want to see a realistic timeline, go look at how long civil rights took to wind through the courts and what it took to implement them in states that didn't want to comply; that's what we are in for.

The way I see it you have four choices:
  1. Do what you can to fight for 2A rights in CA.
  2. Do nothing and hope everything eventually works itself out.
  3. Sell your guns and find a new hobby
  4. Move to a free state

I choose the first option as I don't agree with options 2 and 3 and option 4 isn't feasible for me right now (and probably won't ever be). YMMV.

We fight the good fight or lose the country. Those who do not have the will to fight might as well pick up and move to England.

Not seeing past your nose is correct. Don't you understand that when they get an inch, they then try to stretch it into a mile?

The last thing that we need is to propagate the mentality that exists in this state to others.

This crazy mentality that it is guns that create the violence has to stop. We cannot accept it.

People need to see that this line of thinking is flawed and, you won't get that by advocating that everyone suffer under the same oppression that California does.

Ca. and NY should be looked upon as aberrations- states that have run amok, and are completely outside of the norm- not the models or examples of what should be.

We also care because the more folks in other states challenge these laws in the court system, the more likely, hopefully, eventually, some SCOTUS decision will clarify the rights we have in any state. It's easier for the court to pretend CA is some foreign country somewhere if it's the only place with restrictive oppressive gun laws.

National civil-rights organizations like the NRA, 2AF, and others know that the longer unconstitutional crap sits on the books, the more case law can be built around it as precedent.

The sooner CA's unconstitutional laws are smashed in the courts the sooner we can get on to building Bill of Rights preserving case law precedent.

If those national organizations do not have to fight national battles, they can focus on the state battles which will help to preserve rights for entire federal circuits (multi-state) and nationally if they are required to go all the way to SCOTUS.

All the other states are fighting for your rights in CA. Of course, what we can do is limited to contributing to orgs such as the NRA and so on. We cannot vote in CA so it is simply not possible to save you from yourself. This is why many laugh and tell you to move. I'm using the word "you" generally, not you personally. But if the shoe fits, wear it.

We fight for your rights, if for no other reason than because we realize that the disease you are suffering from can and often does spread.

On a national level, I receive updates from NRA newsletters covering all of the crap bills that CA has written up - the rest of the nation isn't completely blind to the right that we have going on here. Maybe we can get some help at the state level once the national fight does not have to be fought anymore.

Personally I love living in California and think its a beautiful state. I enjoy plentiful waterfowl hunting, bass fishing, motorcycle rides along the coast and RVing in Tahoe all within less than 2 hours of my house. There's NO WAY you're going to see move to the middle of the desert in Arizona just so I can own an AR-15 with no bullet button and buy a 30 round magazine for it from Brownells. But then again, owning semi-auto rifles with certain cosmetic features is not the center of the universe when it comes to my interests and hobbies.

I don't care about new gun control laws, but it's not because it's strict here. I don't care because I have RIGHTS, not PRIVILEGES, and unless they do this:

No piece of paper will change that. I comply with the current laws because I feel it would be too much of a hassle to disobey.

What Supreme Court challenges have there been since Heller and McDonald? So far as I know, none. But they will get there.

Your opening posts suggests "we're getting screwed so who cares about anyone else". Sorry, that's wrong. Just because my house burns down doesn't mean I'm fine with the same happening to someone else.

It's all about trade-offs... You less gun laws in other states but to my experience you get less of everything else too. The beaches in California are nicer than the ones in North Dakota for example.

I sometimes wish we could "vote to ban" on this site... the collective IQ would certainly skyrocket....
