I've shopped at high bridge in the past. They seem pretty good. Friendly. It can get busy in there though. Also be aware you have to jump through a couple of hoops to get through the door per SFPD.
Pricing is fair. Not everything is cheap, nor is everything priced as high as other shops in the area.

Thanks Twolane:

I should have been more patient and waited for the chaos to calm down before I bought my first AR from them!!
I feel I overestimated the government & underestimated the gun lobby, I feel I should not have paid over the MSRP!! Don't like paying MSRP for anything!!!

It was a bad decision!! Can't blame them either though.
I could've said no and just waited.
I also wanted to support the LGS!!

Christopher Chambers at Digital Instincts in Sunnyvale is good. He's friendly, responds to emails quickly, has great prices (especially if you get multiple long guns at the same time), and does SSEs.

http://www.digital-instincts.com/

High Bridge in San Francisco has friendly, knowledgeable staff, but they're much too expensive for transfers. (Edit: To clarify... I mean they charge a lot more for FFL transfers than Chris Chambers or many others listed in this thread; their prices for items in the store are reasonable.)

+1 Rob Blank in Milpitas
One word answers to emails, does reply to the messages. (Good)

FTF he's also of very few words. (Good)

Just looking to do transfers at an efficient and "not-get-jerked-around" price. (Best)

-1 to the dude in Burlingame
Hundred bucks + a percentage on the rifle cost over 1k. Really?!?! (BAD)

Reeds is excellent until they ring you up at $100 transfer fee, then add on DROS.

No sense in paying that when you can just go somewhere else.

I was going to ask how people felt about him. Started the DROS on some lowers there this morning. He gave me a pretty fair price OTD on more than one. Better than I found on the net before shipping, DROS and tax.
We'll see how it goes in 10 days. Seems like a pretty nice guy and it was quick.
I emailed him last night around 3am.. got off work at 8.. got home and took a shower then saw he'd responded. Called him to get directions tossed my riding gear on and was home 45 minutes later having started to papers the lowers.

+1 on Chris at Digital Instincts. He is very responsive and easy to work with. He did mention that he has been pretty busy lately due to increased business (probably due to all of the pending legislation). $65 for handgun transfers and $100 for SSE transfers, both including DROS.

+1 for Chris Chambers @ Digital Instincts

I've used a few Bay Area FFL's and I'd have to say no one has been better than Chris. Fair pricing, always has time for you; great attention to details and quick response times. Very easy to work with.

Give him a call--you will not be disappointed

Every FFL charges CA taxes on out of state purchases because it's required of them now.

Always been treated well and fairly at Gun Works in Pleasant Hill.
City Arms is GTG as well although can get busy.
Triple A in Vallejo seems cool.
Bullseye in Castro Valley takes forever. You'd think they'd want to get on to the next thing. Nope 1 hour. Was amazing. Won't try that again.

Not entirely true, if there is no sales reciept provided with the firearms when they are shipped, how? can an FFL collect taxes without knowing the costs of the items.

The answer is he cant. any FFL who tries to collect taxes without a reciept should be avoided.

Do you there is such a huge loophole to avoid having to pay CA taxes?

+1 for Peter at Mount Pleasant Arms in San Jose. Great communication and would respond even when I emailed at 10pm (not expecting a reply til the next day). Got me in the door on fairly short notice. Great price for multiple transfers at once.

If I had to say something bad about him it's that he isn't closer...

+1 for Mike Weiss at Kinetic Energy Tools.

I've only every done one transfer outside of my LGS, but everything went perfect. $50 for a transfer + DROS. He found what I wanted from his distributor and saved me the $50. No hassle, no drama just got me exactly what I wanted in a timely manner.

If you live around Peninsula or South Bay, I would recommend Mike Weiss
408-691-8907 Kinetic Energy Tools LLC. email: mike@kineticenergytools.com
He charges $ 75 for the DROS. He responds quickly and a great person to deal with.

What's the best way to get a hold of Kevin Smith? I left him a voicemail late this afternoon but am wondering if I should wait for him to get back to me or be more persistent with an email or another call. I found a good deal on some lowers but am worried about them going out of stock before I can get in contact with him.

I've used email, and he responds pretty quickly. He was closed today so he probably wasn't monitoring his voicemail. He's open tomorrow ... In fact I'm picking up something tomorrow. (speaking of which ... 10 days ago, someone backed into my wife's sky blue Lexus that I had drove over to Kevin's FFL. You know who you are ... I believe it was a truck that was parked on the street just down from his place. I don't know if you were one of the two guys that were DROSing your Anderson lowers. My wife is extremely pissed off since you put a 3 inch scrape on her hood)
