I believe dealer transfers are as follows:
Long guns $60 including DROS
Handguns $70 including DROS

Great guy! Definitely going back to him if I purchase something online.
Is the SSE included in the dealer transfer pricing you listed, or is that an additional fee?

Thanks to all for your responses. I am now a loyal customer of Brian Nussbaum in Burlingame. Excellent service, not far from my home, and a thoroughly nice person!

Not anymore, spoke to Kevin the other day, $50.00 plus DROS; if I'm wrong tell me otherwise and I'll call him back. He does seem like a real nice guy over the phone.

Tracy Rifle
Metal Dog Tactical

Both will do SSE, I've done one with Tracy. You just need to check with each first to confirm that they can do the specific model you want.

+1 for Mil-Spec Armory. New shop on Merdian here in San Jose. Ari and Marty are great guys. Currently open Wednesday - Sunday, but they are slowly expanding and growing. Relaxed environment is welcoming to all and has quicky become one of my favorite hangouts Have completed a number of deals with/through them and met/been introduced to some other like minded collectors that also frequent here.... A great addition to Willow Glen

+1 For Peter at MP Arms. Just wrapped up an SSE with him. Extremely professional, quick email responses, friendly, thorough, great pricing. Would definitely do business with him again.

+1 For Hank at Reed's in Santa Clara. Bought my first long gun from him recently and couldn't be happier. Truly outstanding customer service, very professional, and ZERO attitude. I have made many return visits for ammo and accessories that I could get closer to home or online simply because I want to support Hank and the rest of the staff there.

Diablo Valley Gun Works - older group of gents there who I've heard can be cantankerous, but I've only had good dealings with them the two times I did transfers there. No lock purchase requirement. Average turnaround time for paperwork.
Had problems with previous owner, but I like Mike and am happy with my overall experience. FANTASTIC gunsmith as well.

A few years ago, the City Arms Russians were the worst and I hate going there because they had an attitude of I couldn't ask to look at more than one gun unless I am ready to buy, but now they are friendly and great and very efficient PPT. May be they are now drinking a different cool aid for better. And I am glad they are as it is the closest to me. Yeah, they don't like to do Internet purchase transfer even for the model or brand they don't sell.

For low price if you have multiple long guns to transfer or Internet/transfer order, mparms definitely is the best and cheapest/reasonable price I found but it is far in south San Jose area for me. I am sure there are a couple of others good ones as well in Santa Clara. There is one FFL in San Mateo/San Bruno area (I can't remember the name) that charges his transfer fee a fix rate plus a % of my firearm value so if I am transferring a $2000 gun, the transfer fees go up to like $150 for the same amount of paperwork. Just unbelievable.

I was at the airport Jackson Arms 2weeks ago to do a PPT, and there were 2 other simple PPTs ahead of me, and it wasn't a busy time either. It took them a loooooong time to do each. It took me over 1 hr and 45 minutes from the time I get there to the time I walked out of the store. I would avoid going there unless you have too much time doing nothing.

+1 for Mike

He also works out of SSF. I just did an internet transfer though Mike on a 10MM Kimber 1911 and it went smoothly. I've started to get Mike to think about doing SSE on 1911's and he is seriously considering it. In the meantime, I am trying to find an affordable 1911 45 ACP barrel for the SSE process. We need someone close to SF to do SSEs so let Mike know that you would also be interested in this.

Hi ParkSmart,

Sorry I did not see your inquiry. The SSE is an additional $25.
He only does certain types, not all. Be sure to check his website to confirm he can do the firearm that you want.

Imbert and Smithers should be a case study on how NOT to go about customer service. Born and raised mid peninsula, my father and grandfather bought all their hunting gear there; I bought my first rifle and shotgun there, along with countless hunting licenses, so I feel I'm qualified after almost forty years to pass some judgment.....they've always been horrible to deal with. Two years ago I swore I'd never go back in, and haven't. I now go to Peninsula Guns and have dealt with them on a few items, and really couldn't be happier.

East Bay - I recommend Kevin Smith in Martinez, San Jose area - Tim & Blair at San Jose Gun Trader (https://www.facebook.com/SanJoseGunTrader)

SJGT advertises here in CalGuns, so you can always see a list of their current inventory. They're a family-run business, they're patient and very, very considerate and pleasant. I can't recommend them enough. I drove over an hour to buy a hard-to find pistol from them, when I could have just bought it online & had shipped to someone else closer, but I have no regrets and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Did a PPT at TRAP the other day any they handled it quicker than any other FFL I ever been to. It was a trek for me in the Bay Area but the seller lived in Molesto so it was a good place to meet half way. And they have all sort of cool toys you don't see very often.

If you're in Antioch, go to City Arms in Pleasant Hill.
The service is great, the prices are reasonable, and the staff is knowledgeable.
Never had a bad experience there.

To clarify something another poster said:
No store likes doing internet transfers because they don't make much money on them. That said, City Arms does the least expensive OOS transfers of any shop in CoCo county. Last I checked, they were charging $125 with DROS, which is cheaper than any other shop.

Thanks for the SSE info from MP Arms, although it is a $30 fee now, but that is still reasonable. I'll either go through them or Toby's Tactical soon.

Here is a list of FFL's I compiled for an out of state long gun transfer I am in process of. It was too late before I figured out Gun Vault is $$$, I should have checked Calguns for a better, less expensive FFL in advance. Gun vault also requires FFL -> FFL.

1. Bay Area Gun Vault.
363 W El Camino Real, Mountain View, CA ‎ (650) 960-3006
$25 for DROS
Handling fee: $75 for first $1000, 5% for gun value over $1000 (This adds up)
+ tax

2. Target Masters West
122 Minnis Cir, Milpitas, CA (408) 263-7468
$100 total + tax

3. Reeds Indoor Range
1100 Duane Ave, Santa Clara, CA (408) 970-9870
$30 DROS + $100 handling + tax

4. Metal Dog Tactical
2128 N First St, San Jose, CA (408) 437-2715
$25.00 DROS + $50.00 handling fee + tax

5. Kerleys
20301 Stevens Creek Blvd. Cupertino, CA 95014 408-255-1920
25 DROS + 150 handling + tax

Default +1 Toby's Tactical (Mountain View)

I did my first SSE recently at Toby's Tactical.
Got me a G34 Gen4.
Nice guy to deal with, Up and coming store (lots-o-space to grow and add additional machinery).

He has access to machining and so can SSE some of the more unusual stuff.
I won't quote prices, but I think them very fair.

I found that he communicates very well and keeps you informed during the process.

Also does AOW stuff.

Highly recommended

Barry

+1 for Eddie's Shooting Sports

Any recommendations for a bay FFL with an AW license to import an evil rifle, and neuter it? I'm thinking of a Sig 556, so would need the stock pinning and a bullet button.

I've got the SOT so I can do AOW's but that assault weapons permit is no easy task. I don't know anyone else in the Bay Area with one. I'm also not doing any more transfers right now.

...As previously mentioned in an above post, J&R in Livermore too ! Purchased a Ruger gp100 and Primary Weapons AR, very very competetive pricing, until I went in there last week and seen my PWS AR go for $900 more than I paid....unfortunately this isnt J&R's fault, PWS are just getting unnecessarily pricey
