Membership sure has spiked... I'm backlogged for months..

Trap and Skeet has no waiting most days and action is more or less the same.. But your choice..

There is Livermore and Yolo.. and if you want to drive a bit, Metcalf and way out east is the Folsom shooting center. The question though is.. if you drive to those ranges, you sort of negate any cost savings.. Crossing two bridges can get pricy and then toss in gas money.

Have fun with that. I can promise you I won't be there. I can just go another 2 miles down the road to Chevron Club and use that.

How will the action range be charged? By the hour as well?

Nothing has changed on the action range.. Not sure how the rifle range could regulate a range they don't oversee. The action range at this time will remain the same.. $7 for members, $15 for non-members when we are open (Sats 9:30a-1:30p).

That's okay, but most people don't have that option.. All this would not have happened had the other ranges remained open. We've been getting a lot of feedback from members and how they pay their membership fees and can't get on the range.. Something had to give... unfortunately the price needs to go up to either steer people away to other ranges or they come down, pay the price and get moving instead of "home steading" in one place. Supporting any range is good in my eyes, even if it's not my home range. The fact that you can go to one of several clubs is good.. and I hope they all remain open.

The 20.00 for two hours then 10.00 per hour after seems pretty reasonable to me. The range I use for handgun is 14.00 per hour

It only makes sense that prices would climb with demand. You can not blame a range for protecting its member's shooting time.

Are members allowed to let their guests use their assigned bench? My girlfriend likes to tag along to the range, but she is not a member.

15 min drive for me and I usually average 2-3 hours anyway. Not gonna deter me from going 2-3 times a month. I want to be a member someone sponsor me ✌️

A lot of folks were spoiled (including myself) going to USI when they were open, especially on the pistol side. They'd be out there half or all day long. As much a social event as it was just going to shoot for a while. I still see some of the same folks at RRGC on the rare times i mosey over to the public side.

Used to be that $7 (members) could cover you for action range and rifle. If we paid $7 for action, could that be used towards rifle side for the hourly? Thanks!

I'll have to ask the range chairman. It might either cover you the rest of the day or it'll be taken as a discount on whatever higher fees they charge. They are supposed to be stamping anyone who went to the action range so that would be proof of paying.

Is there a long waitlist to shoot here on a Saturday morning? If I show up at 8, is it likely I can get a seat on the rifle range? Never been, but i have a chance to go

You might make it on if you show up at 8, but don't quote me on that.. The range doesn't open until 9a.

the way I understand the message in this thread is member only from 9-11 then after 11 they will let non members in if lanes are available. So I suspect if you get there at 8am you would have to wait until 11am before you would be able to get a lane even if there are still lanes open prior to 11am

One could shoot the highpower match on the 200yd line and then go to the public line afterwards if they didn't want to wait.

Default Pricing changes at Richmond Rod and Gun club

Hey I just got back from Richmond, had a great time with my buddy at the 100yd. Sooo much better than indoor range. Got there at before 8am, and landed a spot on. The last bench on the 100yd range got taken at 8:10am. The public range opens at 9am, and the gates were open when we got there before 8. Anyway, awesome time, try to go if you can.

Edit: shout out to @jeremyro for being a cool dude and giving me and by buddy tons of tips! You really made our first trip to Richmond a blast.

And all the ROs were pretty much good guys. Anyone who complains about the Richmond ROs getting on their back, I donno, maybe you're doing it wrong...?

Well, July 1st the new fee structure and times go into effect. I've been asked to make up sign in sheets, so that being said, the rifle/pistol line will be members only (with possibly their guests) 9a-11a, then general public after 11a with the fee structure stated. It's going to be a learning curve so we'll see how it happens.

The grumpy guy has been given the third degree and has been reported to be less grumpy.. *update* Action range will still be $7 members, $15 non-members.. Asked for clarification if this amount applies to Rifle/pistol range when action closes at 1:30p.

With Chabot and USI gone and San Leandro requiring non magnetic non FMJ again, I imagine there's a lot more demand.

2 hours max is a deal breaker for me.
Part of the draw is the camaraderie on the firing line.
At Chabot and USI before that I'd see people on a regular basis. I didn't know their names for the most part but each weekend we would talk of the news of the week, pollitics, impending range closing, etc. The firing line was our meeting place.

Cutting the time allotment to 2 hours seriously degrades the firearms culture that exists among the shooters on the line.

Too bad.
The anti's are winning.

The drive to Sac is well worth it for a day of "homesteading" as you call it.

I pray the tide will turn but am not hopefull.
Soon richmond will be targeted by the anti's. They will use the lead argument and the proximity to the bay as justification to close the range.

I hope not but that's how I see it.
Sadly

Polygunner.. We'll see...

Not so sure the anti's are winning.. membership does have it's privileges... Can't blame members for wanting access to their club before the masses who are not members.. If you want to drive to and from Sac to homestead (or Yolo, Livermore, or another club) we are okay with that.. we simply were not designed to take the brunt of USI, Bullseye, and Chabot at our Club.. The influx of 250 new members in the last 2 months before the initiation fee went up is an indication that we are not hurting for new memberships..it's going to take me months to process them all in and we are still having people apply.

(copied from the RRGC bulletin)
Effective July 1st, Range Fees will be on an hourly basis. The RR&GC member rate will be $5/hour with no time limitation. The NON-member rate will be $20 for 2 hours ($10./hr.) When space is available, nonmembers may purchase additional time at $10/hour. So if there is room, as a non-member it appears you can stay.. Rifle side is likely to continue to be busy, pistol line tends to be less crowded.

Same. I am pretty new to shooting and have only been there 3 times so it's been tricky finding someone willing to sponsor me.

You're lucky enough to have somewhere to shoot.. well, that's good.. but why the hate? If you don't go to Richmond, how do you know "It's a hassle" as you put it?

Heck, loading the car full of firearms, making sure they are properly locked, loading up the ammo, and all the safety items are a hassle.. why the heck should I bother? Oh yeah... because it's fun.. I'm happy you have somewhere to shoot.. Richmond, Chevron, Yolo, Sac Valley, wherever.. have at it.. I used to go to USI back 15 years ago.. it was a hassle too.. I've been a member there since 1986.. and it was hit/miss when the MP range was ever open.. I hope you don't lose your range.. since it would mean you and a bunch of ppl would have to find another range.. and that would suck..

You do know that it's a *private* club, right?
The Richmond Rod and Gun Club.

The club has a process for joining that includes both being sponsored by an existing member and going through an interview.

Shooting where and when the club allows the public to do so doesn't require being a member.

Uh, yeah, but it's more than JUST a range.. it's a full service club... Rifle/pistol range, 5 bay action range, 200 yard line for NRA High-power matches, a Clubhouse with breakfasts and social dinners, trap and skeet ranges, a picnic and bbq area with 2 large charcoal bbq pits, access to shore fishing, and even a boat launch. Those who visit only the rifle range generally have no idea. It is a private club with public access on days we are open.
