MPA is good in large part because Peter doesn't charge an arm and a leg for multiple transfers. If you're buying more than one thing, the fees thin out quickly.
If you're up around the SF area, check with South City Pawn and see what their rates are like these days.

i wanted to resurrect this thread. does anyone else have other good info to share?
i came across a great FLL - david Chan in sunnyvale, $70 (dros) included. Unfortunately, he is moving out of state. so he will no longer be doing transfers. i am looking for other "garage type" FFLs in the peninsula: SF, san mateo county or north/west san jose county (sunnyvale, cupertino-ish area). obviously MPA, peter, is a good option. i am just looking for something a bit closer to san francisco. UG Imports is a good option, but adding bridge tolls x2 = total fees of $85. im attempting to stay away from traditional LGS, as most of their fees trend in the $100+ range. |

Cheapest FFL I've found in the Bay Area...
This new FFL called "Farwest Photography," give him a like on facebook, charges 25 dollars for stripped receivers and 40 dollars for long guns and handguns. He just opened this month and could probably use some business!
Haven't used him yet, but I plan to in the near future. His name is David Camarlinghi https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/t31.0-...36816389_o.jpg |

Out of those 3 I would only consider Red Skull to be the cheap one, the other 2 are very expensive.

Unfortunately, there are hardly any cheap transfer in the Bay Area. The going rate of PPT in Bay Area is $35. It's the online transfer that is expensive. Going rate for online transfer is about $75-$125 without DROS.

I lost my ca d/l in Alaska last week so I only have passport pic id. I sold a handgun to someone from sfo and have to ship to ffl or I am coming up to work at end of month. Trying to find reasonable ffl for shipping to or I will do ftf and no sales tax fees for buyer.

For long guns a safe affidavit is an option.

Used UG Imports in Fremont. I highly recommend them. Appointment, only. The fee is $50 + DROS. Best option for me. Some of those far-away options are tempting, however I would waste a lot of gas and time. At this point in life, I'm willing to spend extra money to save some extra time.

note that it seems that UG imports is expensive if you are doing multiple transfers at once.
The cheapest I found per additional is metal dog tactical (so far, haven't pulled the trigger yet) which is 75 + 25 dros (first gun) + 10 each subsequent ones. for 5 lowers, that comes out to 140. while UG imports' calculator says 150 + 25 dros for 5. Then for rogers it was 65 + 25 (dros) + 25 each after (its been some time), which would come out to 190 next one is likely santa cruze but I live in san jose so I'd rather not go that far if possible, but I will check with them to see how much it would cost since 140 is a lot, doubly so since I am buy "cheap" stripped lowers where the per gun price is kind of low |

I'll hopefully be getting myself a sidearm soon, planning on trying out Fairfield Pawn ($25 DROS + $20 as previously mentioned in thread). Will post my experience after.
I've used Kevin Smith in Martinez back when his price was $50, good guy, but being on a budget means I can't ignore $45 > $100 when all is said and done. |

If I was up that way I'd be tempted but between the gas, the time, and bridge toll (twice) it isn't worth it to me.
I went to Farwest on Saturday to get a transfer started, he's a nice guy.

Another bump for DAVE at farwest.
very good and aggressive price for stripped lowers transfer. Literally 1/3 of my past purchase. (25 1st one, then discounted 2,3) Went there from san fran proper. Super responsive via email and facebook. When i was in there very chill and was actually trying to help another customer via calling DOJ for clarification. The more FFLs the better. |

Roger and Lisa at Roger's Relics are great guys but they recently jacked up prices to $65 + DROS, which put them in the same price category as highest prices local gun shops, you can still find FFL transfers <= $40 here locally, so they are not competitive at all any more. It was my mistake that I did not check current prices with them before ordering 3 rifles to be shipped to them. Also I have specifically arranged 3 rifles to be shipped to them at the same time, did all paperwork on the same DROS and picked up everything together and they still charged me $65 for EACH rifle. Most FFL guys are charging "additional transfer fee" for transfers on the same DROS. End to end, I'm out of pocket for $100+. While I like Roger and Lisa doing business with them does not make sense to me anymore.

I didn't know Roger's Relics was still in business. Last I heard, they retired.
In other news, SJGT is going to be reborn as "Santa Clara Guns" in the same location. The original owner's brother is taking over the business. No idea what their fee structure will be, so we'll keep an eye out for that info. I too have some incoming orders going to Farwest Photography. Glad to hear good things... he sounds like a great guy. He's super-responsive via FB messaging.

There's a new ffl in Walnut Creek called Setter Arms- Todd is a cool dude who is great to deal with and whose transfer fees are $75 total ($50 transfer + $25 DROS) and his PPTs are quick and painless. Check him out!
