Default The Home Camo Shotgun Thread

Folks, I finally nutted up and camo'ed my shotgun, a Mossberg 500 with plastic furniture and a ported barrel. My camo scheme is an homage to the Los Padres National Forest -- brown! I got everything at Home Depot -- Rustoleum flat colors, instructions off the internet. Cost was under $40. This was easy to do and fun.

I am curious to see what others have done so please feel free to post your own home camo job.

The Mossy before the paint job. Note all the glint and shine on the metal parts -- that had to go.

Here is the during picture in my home spray tent. This is also what my lungs now look like.

The finished product:

Let me know what you think!

I like it. Hopefully you scuffed and primed it. If not, I bet it starts peeling off in chunks. ask me how I know?

@paratroop: I had that experience to with some really expensive artists acrylic paint. after painting, it peeled off like a banana peel. Here I used the cheap stuff, Rustoleum. It adhered did really well to the plastic parts but not so much to the steel until I stuck it in the oven. It has been uncharacteristically damp and cold here. The paint felt tacky on the steel and scuffed easily. I thought I would have to redo the whole thing. But after cooking it on low for 10 minutes (I took all the plastic parts off), the paint is now as hard as a rock and cannot be scuffed at all. Make sure that you don't touch the metal while it is hot because the paint turns soft again until it cools down.

My old Mossberg 500 sat in storage for quite a while. When I took it out some rust had formed on the barrel. The rust cleaned up easily enough and when I was about to repaint it black, another idea formed...

The Krylon 3-color camo from Home Depot was sprayed on using various bits of foliage from my back yard as masking for the camo. Turned out better than I thought it would and has held up great.
