Default ID: Our first Idaho Earthquake

An excess of Californians and "Climate Change" has produced an earthquake in the Boise area. House (single story, wood frame) is still standing, lights are on so all is well. Reminds me of my first California quake more than 40 years ago; I was asleep at my work desk at 3 am and awoke to the desk jumping around and the door swinging back and forth. Feel right at home.

That brought on a flashback of driving north on 101 to the City, and watching the Candlestick Causeway have waves just like the ocean. Not nearly that bad, but only the 3rd quake we can remember over 17+ years here. I can't remember one over the mid-5's.

6.5 Quake in Idaho

Nice roller. Probably close to 10 seconds. No damage to our place or any neighbors. The inter mountain inter tie ham radio repeater system lit up. Reports from all over utah and Idaho were pouring in right after.

Epicenter of our last big quake in 1983 was in the same area, near Challis, Idaho. The last big quake in 1983, known as the "Borah Peak Earthquake," was more intense (about M 7) but as I recall it did not last as long as this recent one.

I was on 101 in the San Jose area during that quake. Everyone pulled over; I thought I had broken an a-arm until the bouncing continued after I stopped the car. Lots of damage in the mud flats of San Francisco.

The recent Idaho quake about 75 miles or so.

The infamous Loma Prieta quake probably 25 miles when I was in my car. I lived in Hollister, CA for 25 years which is very near a small fault line, but the quakes, while frequent, were so small that we never felt a thing.

As long as the giant volcano that was Emmett doesn't reawake I'm good.
