Default Two matches in Cuyama (600 yd & 1,000 Yd) Feb 16 & 17

This coming Saturday the Tri-County Rifle Club is hosting an NRA approved Mid-Range (600 yd) Match. Then on Sunday, we’ll host our regular NRA approved Long Range (1,000 yd) Match.

The 600 yd match will consist of three strings, 20 shots each string. Total possible score 600 pt.

The 1,000 yd match will consist of two strings, 20 shots each string. Total possible score 400 pt.

All of our matches are open to the public. Cost is $20 per match (for non-members) and includes $4.50 fee for score submittal to NRA. $5 discount for club members.

The range is located on Hwy 33 east of Cuyama, 3 miles south of the Hwy 166 intersection, on the east side of the road across from Foothill Road. (Right at the Ventura / Santa Barbara county line sign.) Look for a shade structure and a bunch of vehicles 1/4 mile up the dirt road. The range flags will be up so it will be easy to see.

The Saturday match will consist of three relays of 20 rounds at 600 yards. You shoot your relay, then work the pits marking the other shooter's targets and then repeat.

Sunday's match will be 20 rounds at 1,000 yards, twice. (40 rounds plus sighters)

You'll need:
* Ear and eye protection
* Ammunition for the match plus another 2 - 5 rounds for sighters before each relay
* A finger adjustable scope with enough adjustment to reach 1,000 yards (~48 MOA for 308 shooters) Just 600 yards on Saturday.
* A good 100 yard zero (we'll get you on paper with your sighters)
* Bipod or front rest (and optional rear rest)
* A shooting mat
* A good attitude

If any new long range shooters want to come out and try the match you are more than welcome. I'll come out and help you learn the procedures, get you on paper and coach you during the match if you'd like.

If anyone wants to come out and just watch, you are more than welcome, too. Bring a spotting scope or good binoculars and a chair to get the most out of watching.

I don't know which days I'll be out there yet but if any of you want to come out, post up here and I'll show up that day to help. I'll bring a shooting mat, some sandbags a front rest, etc. if any of you need to borrow some equipment.

You can also dry camp overnight at the range on Saturday night if you like and shoot both matches, others will be there doing it.

Very cool, I'm going to try and make the 3 hour drive there. Use to go up there for Willow Springs racetrack.

We're about 70 miles west of there.

If you enter "Tri County Rifle Range" into Google maps it will bring you right to us.

It looks like Saturday is supposed to be cool and clear. Accuweather says, 48 degrees but it will feel like 44 with 7 - 13 mph winds. With our luck they will be out of the South and that following wind will mess up your wind calls if you're not really paying attention.

Sunday looks like the match may be called for rain. You can't keep the paper targets up in the rain.

The weather say a high of 45 degrees (feel like 40) with rain off and on.

Edit: My trip to Texas got moved a week but the weather reports say rain today, Saturday afternoon light rain and off and on rain on Sunday.

Highway 166 is open but Hwy 33 from the south and Lockwood valley Rd are still closed.

I don't think that I'm going to make it out this weekend.

Matches are the third weekend of every month except May, that's our club's annual work weekend for range repairs.

PM me your email address and I will send it to our club for addition to the email list.
