I have the cheaper of the two and it's great for spending a couple of hours at the range. Fits between the benches at Chabot at a reasonable angle, rolls up small, etc. For an Appleseed I actually prefer my carpet square because it's larger and more plush which is nice for dropping down onto it and spending all day, but that would be a pain to drag to and from the regular benches for a quick shoot and it wouldn't really fit, anyway.

I was gonna order this mat from Midway, but they want to charge $15 shipping on a $25 item. I know $40 would still be a good deal, but charging over 50% of the item price for shipping is just ridiculous to me!

They're pretty big and bulky.

Ordered the Pro Series Mat today. I agree that their shipping is strange, but it does seem to represent actual cost. After playing around with their options I found it cheapest to purchase the mat separately from my other stuff (10/22 parts and a couple boxes of Wolf Match) because everything else could be shipped "standard ground" but the mat had to ship UPS ground.

I have one that I bought during their black Friday sale, can't go wrong. And for that price, I was originally planning on picking up a exercise mat to use but saw this and went for it. Yea shipping was a bit much but it was worth it.

What makes a shooting mat good? I'm thinking about just using a piece of carpet.

These are great mats at regular price and even better on sale. Nothing like shooting in comfort all day at Appleseed.

Thanks for the heads-up on the sale...I bought one when I saw your post (pennys dad) two weeks ago. It arrived in plenty of time for Piru's Appleseed (which was today) and it was worth the money (on sale). I figured we will be using it to practice NPA, transitions, and dry fire...at home. Thanks again!
