I'm heading out for a 4 day handgun at the end of September. I'll post up my review of it.

sg: awesome.
When are you planning on going? Just keep in mind it starts getting pretty cold in late november so plan accordingly.
which class are you planning on taking?

I remember taking my first class 4 years ago, it was a 4 day defensive handgun class and I was instantly hooked.
Hope you have a fun time but if you have any questions feel free to ask, plenty of veteran members here who can pass on some advice / suggestions.

Thanks Jedi54! I'm hoping to go in October for a 2 day defensive handgun. I'm sure once I get signed up I'll have some questions. :-)

Looks like the weather is cooling off a bit for next week.
Temps down to 100° on Tuesday and 99° on Wednesday for my skill builder

Heading out to FS on Thursday to do my first 4 day Handgun Combat Master Prep course.

Any tips and advice the FS veterans can give for a first timer?

Let us know how it goes. I cancelled out of that class last week because of work. It would have been my first HCMP class as well

Not a lot to say on practicing since your class is this week, but just be prepared for a lot of shooting.
Have plenty of mags and a be able to stuff rounds in your pocket - that will prevent you from having to go back to the chairs. Not like it matters if you miss something, but it just lets you focus more on shooting if you're not always worried about rounds.
They run looser as far as hot range. They let you carry hot and you're responsible for clearing if you leave and reloading when you return.

I loved the class and will be back for the January one. It's a trip to see just how good some of those shooters are.

I have a favor to ask you or anyone going to a class soon. Can someone ask what height the targets are set at? Or mark the height of the targets on you then measure when you get back?
Maybe someone even has that number or could be they'd answer over the phone. I'm tying to set up a test target at home.

Have fun!

Got back last night from a Skill Builder with my GF and as always we had a blast. Hot as Hell and even got a lightning storm towards the end of day 1 which caused them to stop all range activities by 4 o'clock as it was heading right for us and the lightning strikes were getting too close to the property.

The highlight for me was FINALLY accomplishing a goal I'd set for myself at the beginning of the year which was to Zero the test.
Finished the shooting portion down 0 and also did the same with the malfunctions.

Booked the 4 day defensive handgun the week of October 23rd with a few family members.

So far I have a descent belt, holster, two double mag holsters, plenty of mags and ammo for my G17 or G19.

Still need to get some pants, electronic hearing protection and maybe some nice eye protection rather than the cheapo ones.

Thanks LV, appreciate it.
No pressure now, huh? But you are correct, that is the expectation now going forward.

I'll have a chance to put that to the test in Nov when I take a Skill Builder with some friends or I might take the Tactical HG if I can talk a different buddy into joining us.

Tougher to shoot 0 down during a Skill Builder as that class uses the turning targets. :-)

That's your next goal! I've only done that once.

Absolutely!
My plan is to take HCMP in mid November and then either Tactical HG or the Skill Builder with friends on Nov 29th.
I last took HCMP about a year ago and am itching to get back out there.

Variable. One week can be hot. One week cold. But usually it's nice.

The later into November you get, the more cold it is. And watch the wind in October/November.

I'm a Frontsight member. What's up with the new offer to give members back their money?

What is that all about?

I was afraid of a HOT Sept weekend but it looks like the weather this weekend's gonna be good.

I'm excited for the Integrated Handgun class. only took 3 years to knock out all the pre-reqs.

I just noticed there's only one class for the open hand / edged weapons course all the way out to the end of March. Anyone know if FS is phasing out these courses?
