Bring your guns to Foothill Firearms, Newcastle, CA. I use Scott Ormsby and Jack Huntington, both have been master gunsmiths for years. I personally use them for my guns and my customers guns. Quick turn around time.
Respectfully, Jerry Kazee Manager

Will forth the feedback on J&G. Avoid these guys. Not only do they not know what they are doing, they are careless with handling the gun. It will come back with finish scratches or gouges that were not there at drop off and deny it.
Took my 1911 to them to check out and adjust my ejector after a FTF from a blazer round that did not a rim and jacked the ejector causing feed problems for a gun that ran perfect for 10 years prior to that. Sure enough, on my second mag I was getting FTE and stovepiping. Still have to remedy. Will likely just replace the ejector and guy the tension gauge. . |

Sacramento area gunsmith list
I just dropped my AR off at The Gun Authority (www.gunauthority.net) near Sunrise/Whiterock to get my AA piston kit checked out. It's a fairly new shop with a selection of guns, a gunsmith, a leather crafter, and will soon be putting up classes. The guys there were very friendly and their gunsmith will be checking it out and hopefully finishing it tomorrow. Will update once I get my rifle back.
Update 1/28/14: I received my rifle back and took it to Sly Park on the 27th. It functioned perfectly and the problem ended up being my error in installing the AA piston kit. Although a minor issue with my AR, their gunsmith Rusty still took the time to call Adams Arms and thoroughly check, clean, and lube my rifle. Last edited by ffemt; 01-28-2014 at 8:02 AM.. |

I guess it's YMMV at J&G.... I've had nothing but good experiences with them, especially Pete. Pete works on all my 1911s. I recently brought him a S.A. Milspec frame and slide and provided him with a bunch of high end parts (mostly Wilson Combat, EGW, etc.) and told him to build me a tack driver. A month later, I now have a 1911 that out shoots my Ed Brown Special Forces, has a better trigger than my Ed Brown, and even fits tighter than my Ed Brown. And this was not just a "fitting" job. The work included filing the frame tangs to fit an S&A beavertail grip-safety, milling the slide to install a dovetail front sight, hand checkering the front strap, undercutting the trigger guard, 3.5lb trigger job, and parkerizing the whole gun (except the barrel, barrel bushing and hammer).
If anyone wants to see Pete's work, feel free to PM me and I'd be happy to send pics. Oh, and to one of the prior posters who is an "Asian guy" that didn't feel comfortable at J&G, I'm a fellow "Asian guy" who has always been treated with great customer service by Jerry (the owner), the Mikes, Pete, Steve, and all the other guys behind the counter. But like I said, I guess it's YMMV. |

J&G
I've used J&G for rifle work and they have always done a good job for me. They did a great job replacing a Mauser barrel that had been made into a sporter rifle and scope mounting. On another note, I will say that they have treated me pretty well when I've shopped in their for retail purposes as well.

The Lincoln Gun Exchange has a good gunsmith. His name is Scott. He's worked on a gun of mine and I was extremely satisfied. The only problem is
that Scott, like many of us, isn't getting any younger. The last I heard he stilled worked on guns, but is semi-retired. |

Regarding J&G, when Jerry was doing the working on guns, he did exceptional work. Since he's moved to Granite Bay I think he has one or maybe two working on guns. I've taken two 'jobs' to them. One a simple trigger job on a bolt gun (not a Remington), and the other to break down a newer Savage bolt. The first job they refused to do, offered an action job (which I didn't need). The second they were unable to perform.
I've heard too many horror stories from folks who've needed a variety of work done and it isn't pretty. I no longer recommend them. |

Nonsense. Gary is a war vet, factory trained technician with over 30 years experience. Took my 1968 Winchester model 131 to Gary when no one else could touch it. He had parts in stock. Since then he has worked on my AR15, Garands (yes, that's plural) and my M1A. Never charged me more than $40.00 for labor. Outstanding gentleman, and value. I hope he lives long enough to train me for my second career in gunsmithing. Last edited by Badmusic; 05-30-2014 at 5:54 AM.. |

Another for Scott Ormsby in Pleasant Grove and not just because he's a personal friend that I've known for thirty plus years but because he knows his guns. He has done smith work for Lincoln Gun Exchange in the past and may still.

Is this the same Scott Ormsby that went to East Nicolaus High like the rest of us old dinosaurs?

Hello everyone,
We have a full-time gunsmith on site. Chad completed the 2 year gunsmithing program at Lassen College and has been working professionally for a little over 3 years. He previously worked as a gunsmith with Jim over at California Tactical. We are outfitted with a machine shop and full-Service gunsmithing is available including cerakoting (Official Magpul colors available), accurizing, full custom builds, repair, cleaning, modification, and customization. Our website is in the process of a vendor change so the details may not reflect all of the services available. Gunsmith services are available all days except Sundays and Thursdays. He is usually available from 10AM to 6:30 PM. Feel free to call, email, or stop in to speak with him personally. Please mention that you are a CGN member. Thanks Services are listed here: Sacramento Gun Club Membership and Services List

I need actual gunsmithing done on my kimber pro carry ii 1911. Fitting and blending (filing and refinishing) a wilson one piece mag well, re cutting front sight cut to fit novak cut sights and front checkering. My plan if all else fails is to send to wilson combat, but does anyone know a gunsmith that can handle this around Sacramento?

The Sacramento Gun Club has a gunsmith on duty every day except Sunday and Thursday I think. His name is Chad and he is very good. He's young, but he certainly knows his business. I'd recommend him.

Scott still working on guns? I worked with him when I was a patrol deputy back in the day. And I've had J&G do a bunch of work on my guns with no issues. I might be looking for a new smith though after reading some of these comments.
