Default 22lr Buyers Consortium?

Just a thought, if anyone is interested.

details:

we designate 1 buyer.
each contributor and the buyer list out the ammo type of 22lr they buy
'the consortium agree's on a number 1, 2 and 3 type to purchase
each person sends the buyer $100, the buyer must have $100 in the buying pot as well
the buyer is authorized to buy the agreed upon ammo immediately without requesting input
the buyer spends all the cash in the pot and buys as much 22lr ammo as possible
when purchased the buyer notifies the consortium of the purchase proving the detail of:
type, location, amount, cost
when received the buyer notifies the consortium
each person is responsible to pick up or arrange shipping of their ammo. you can either come to buyer, if the buyer is willing you can cover the gas for delivery or pay for FedEx or UPS shipping (1 - 500 round brick weighs approximately 5 lbs).

Then we start over.
This gives us the ability to buy fast. the market is going to be odd for a year.

I assume the idea here is the buyer can act immediately if he's fortunate enough to find something on the desired list in stock.

It would be more complicated, but having a group with multiple buyers might increase your chances of success. By having multiple buyers you could get more people scouring the net or stores to find ammo.

Obviously, a drawback is everyone would have more $$$ on the line.

Interesting idea ...

I've been seeing more and more 22lr becoming available in the last 2 days. I also see more limits being placed on how many boxes someone can buy in a day.

More buyers would help in purchasing for your consortium.

Hopefully we are nearing the peak of the demand and we'll see more available soon.

I think something that could be considered is having buyers by area

A little complicated.

Easier? Same as your idea but instead of sending money, the commitment is made in the thread and buyer puts it on the ol' credit card. Then proceeds as per your plan. More like a group buy with understanding the exact product has yet to be determined (obviously a minimum standard would apply). You may get a couple of flakes, dibs on extra go to initial group, after that put it up for sale.

I would be willing to be a large purchaser for .22LR. I run into deals once in awhile. I just picked up 25,000 rounds from J&G a few weeks ago.

The problem is shipping and taxes. My sales tax is 9.5% if I buy locally and if I buy online we are looking at double shipping fees. Buying in bulk won't even generate a discount as I have bought $10k in ammo at once a few times and the discount is negligible. I would also need a few bucks just for my gas/time.

I don't mind the risk of flakers since I burn through it like crazy myself.

maybe we should form these up based on region, with a single buyer?
Or we can always try shipping, it is about $24 dollars for 1000 rounds.

Anyhow it is just a thought.

One other suggestion i will make in a different thread

If you want to give it a try PM me.

I think we should list all link we use to find ammo.

This way we all have a place to go look and click and check

for instance I check:

MidwayUSA filtered to 22lr instock

Cabelas

NatCheese

Cheaper then dirt filtered to 22lr

The Armory

I think this way is the best.
I found a guy on backpage selling 20,000 rounds of .22lr but he wants $45/pack. He was looking for an upper and I offered to trade him pre-panic prices or equal inflated prices and he flaked.

After the nightmare with TheExpertish's mosin GB, I'd be wary of sending someone money to buy something unspecified.

That said, for $100 I might take a chance. But I like the idea of a traditional group buy better

Yeah, sending somebody money up front doesn't make a lot of sense after the prior debacles, and I don't see why concentrating the money to one buyer instead of everybody buying on their own makes sense. Many set of eyes looking for deals is better than one. It's actually been pretty easy to pick up .22 as long as you're willing to buy a case - sgammo has had Eley Sport a couple of times a week. Check around 9pm or early in the morning California time, that seems to be when they restock.

If the issue is that people want to split cases, there's already an informal thing happening in the threads about ammo showing up on some website where people are finding each other saying "bought a case even though I didn't want that much" and other people are saying "oh, I'd love the other half".

LAX Ammo....http://www.laxammo.com/ammunition/22-lr-ammo/44

MidwayUSA...http://www.midwayusa.com/find?newcat...m_vc=653PopCat

Brownells...http://www.brownells.com/ammunition/..._22+Long+Rifle

SGAMMO...http://www.sgammo.com/catalog/rimfire-ammunition/22-lr

You can add these to your list. Nothing available at the moment, but I have scored 22lr from them recently.

At one time or another I've bought from all of the guys listed below. The first two are my go-to suppliers.

www.ammoman.com

www.surplusammo.com

www.ammunitiontogo.com

www.targetsportsusa.com

www.ammosupplywarehouse.com

www.palmettostatearmory.com

I also use www.ammoengine.com to search for ammo, but they don't always find prices/stock at all my on-line sources.

It seems as though the benefit of this concept is highest if there's a way to have multiple people looking for sources and deals. I realize that may make it more complicated.

I'm not a fan of Cheaper Than Dirt and would prefer not to send them my $$$ unless I get desperate (right now I am not).

Im in for $100. Maybe we can set it up by region and vote on which member is in charge of the money/order. Could we do more than $100? How about $50 a share and your first $100 gets you 2 shares.

I just bought out an online retailer that had Aguila 40gr .22lr standard velocity in stock. I have 132 packs of 500 in process. My cost after shipping is $28/500.
I will ship at a cost of $36/500. That pretty much leaves me with $1 for my time in packing and gas to the UPS store.

I am offering this ammo to the posters in this thread in sequential order. Pennys dad is first in line and so on. Limit is 5,000 rounds per person and minimum purchase is 1,500 rounds.

Thanks Phil!

I've also found that if you're on SGAmmo's email notification you can generally get in on their Minimag availability before they sell out within an hour. The issue has been their two case limit but that's 10k rounds.

Thanks. Honestly, I don't mind if no one wants it. I've got a new Razorback beltfed upper on the way to put on my M16. My 7 yr old is going to burn through 1,000 rounds a minute once he gets his hands on it.

Well, if someone wants ammo, then they'll buy it. I mean, it's not even a matter of "I can't find reasonably priced .22lr anywhere" it's "There is nothing to buy".

I'm sure your offer will be taken up!

Phil that's an awesome offer. I have been unable to locate any .22lr for some time. I am hoping the .22lr frees up soon, it's tough with guns sitting in the safe unused.

I hope I can get the shipping lower. I'd like to move this for $33-34/500

My guns have been sitting because I spend all my time looking for ammo.

Why would you buy up all the ammo just to turn around and sell it. I would personally be shooting my stash of 22 if I had one....

I bought it to help out my fellow Calgunners. I am a really big fan of .22lr and I know this is the caliber people buy to get their shooting "fix" when other ammo is too expensive. I don't really consider this selling since I sell things to make a profit. I look at this as more of a group buy where the participants are protected from losing money. If no one participates I still have what I would have bought anyway so I have zero exposure to capital loss.

I probably won't sell all of it off. This order is 66,000 rounds and I have 25,000 in my garage. I feel comfortable at 40,000 so the rest I am willing to pass along at a more reasonable price for those that can't find it elsewhere.

Thanks 2whls!

I've been a part of a few GB's, but it was for a specific item and I knew what I was getting.

But if you guys do put this together, I wish you all the best of luck.

Guys,
Please stop PMing me. I am getting swamped.

I do not have the ammo yet. Once it is in my possession I will notify everyone via this thread.

I am not asking for any money upfront. I paid in full for the order so there is no group buy through me. If you guys want to coordinate something in a specific location go ahead. I can accept several payments and ship to one location. That would make it easier for me as I can just put a label on a case of 5,000 (10 cartons) and ship instead of reboxing a few cartons at a time.

The first posters in this thread from post 1-18 have first dibs on the ammo in sequential post order. In order to prevent reselling I will be looking at members posts if they are below 50. If it's all in the marketplace you won't be allowed to buy.

Minimum is 3 carton of 1,500 rounds. If there is low interest in buying the minimum I will lower it. Maximum purchase is 5,000 (1 case) per member. That should be good for 100 members minimum and plenty to ration out until ammo is more readily available.

Price is currently estimated at $100 for 3 cartons shipped. Once I get a chance to weigh it I will have a more accurate price. I am trying to get this as low as possible for everyone.

If you have questions, ask them in here so everyone gets an answer. If it is private PM.

Thanks!

SPECS:
.22LR Standard Velocity/Brick 500rds
40gr Lead Bullet.
Velocity: 1135fps.
Energy: 114Ft-lb.

Is this the match grade Aquila? If it is, i might be interested. Well, I'd be interested even if it wasn't. I will wait for an accurate total cost for a case though.

I don't know if i will even need a case, since I do shoot x54r more than 22lr.

I'm interested as well.

Located in the city of Orange (very close to Angel Stadium and The Honda Center), with a few ranges near by if need to meet anyone.

It appears that "audiophil2" is just trying to be a nice guy and help out other shooters. Rare in these days. BZ to him.

I don't know if i will even need a case, since I do shoot x54r more than 22lr.
Not match grade. That stuff is $63/500 before shipping.

Specs on my order:
.22LR Standard Velocity/Brick 500rds
40gr Lead Bullet.
Velocity: 1135fps.
Energy: 114Ft-lb.

I would be interested as well. Just got me a 10/22 and can't afford shooting the 308 currently.

Just saw this link in the deals forums. 325 .22lr for $15.99 at cabelas. Get it quick. Call the customer service line though.
