Not sure if it was a joke or for real, but it's been way more than 2 weeks, where do we stand on CCW issue now?

Sorry about that. My calibrator was off a bit. I'm sure it will only be two more weeks from right now! CCW's for all any day now!

Two weeks is the Calguns equivalent of "don't hold your breath."

So yes,

Until Laurie Smith is removed as Sheriff and replaced by a true 2A supporter, it will never happen.

And this will never happen! Santa Clara County is probably the third most liberal county in the State.

Looks like there is now a written policy letter published on the Sheriffs page. It essentially says the exact same thing that is already written on that page. Seems like a pointless exercise to me. Why bother even firing up Word if youre just going to say nothing new.

So with today's ruling I'm guessing we no longer even entertain the "two weeks" joke? Or is there yet another step to drag things out?

I'd sure appreciate a rejection to the application I submitted two years ago! Let's see how fast those *******s can do that.

So for those of you that have turned in apps to Laurie Smith - have you completed sections 6, 7, and 8 of the application yet?

Also -
The course of training prescribed by the licensing authority has been completed.

Can someone tell me what is accepted here? I imagine this has been asked - but wanted to ask again. I have asked a couple of local people here that have classes - not sure if I want to post what they said here.

Default SJPD for CCW?

Reading an article from 2013, I stumbled upon the fact that SJPD chief Esquivel was pretty good at issuing permits...however he is no longer chief, and it is now Eddie Garcia. Does anyone know Chief Garcia's leniency on issuing CCW's in Santa Clara County through the San Jose PD?

Santa Clara City or County?

I know a while back, it was pointed out Santa Clara City PD issued permits to their own reserve officers, making them the issuing Agency/Authority for SC City residents... but I've never been bothered to pursue if Chief Sellers supports citizen CCW or not (likely not). On a bright note, however... Sellers is up for reelection, so we could ask him about that...

Now that I'm thinking about it, maybe I should ask sooner than later. I noticed he (ordered) changed the SCPD Facebook page to become "Santa Clara Police Department, Chief Michael J. Sellers" recently. Clearly a campaign move for public name-recognition.

It's funny the SCC website still has old "hopeful" messaging on it dated back to January 2016... joke's on us though...

https://www.sccgov.org/sites/sheriff/Pages/ccw.aspx

Quote:
Concealed Carry Permits (CCW)
Published on: 1/21/2016 1:14 PM

In November of 2014, a 9th Circuit panel denied the request of the California Attorney General and several other groups including the Brady Campaign Against Gun Violence to intervene in and appeal the panel’s decision in the Peruta case permitting individuals to request CCW permits without establishing a “good cause” basis for the permit. The panel’s denial of the motions to intervene has not yet changed the status of the law. The intervenors may appeal this decision to a larger panel of the 9th Circuit or the larger panel could on its own review the decision. Thus, the recent decision has not really changed anything until the 9th remands the matter to the District Court to issue the mandate confirming the Peruta decision until then everything will remain status quo and the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office (SCCSO) will continue to collect applications until the law is completely settled. There are also two other cases addressing the same issue that the 9th Circuit may consider on appeal. As you can see this issue is in flux and until the law is settled the SCCSO will be accepting your application. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Currently, we are accepting and processing applications. However, due to a large number of applications we have received, there is a tremendous backlog. Please be patient as we work our way through the backlog.

If you are interested in applying for a CCW permit, please complete the application below and submit it either via mail or in person to:

Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office
ATTN: CCW Unit
55 W Younger Avenue
San Jose, CA 95110

If you have any questions, please email CCW@sheriff.sccgov.org.

So, since we have a President-elect that isn't a Communist - will this change anything here?

I just saw an article talking about Nationwide Reciprocity Under Trump - that has to help - correct?

I think National Reciprocity is when one state recognizes another's permit like a driver's license. It would still mean **** to us Californians when our state won't issue. Unless, you move your residence to a shall-issue state to get your permit.

Well I applied for my CCW back in Dec. 2015 and just got an email from the Sheriffs Department that they are overwhelmed and no estimated time for approval. Sure sounds like they are sitting on applications to me!

I applied in Feb 2014 and haven't heard squat! Overwhelmed my *****. They just couldn't cram them in the shredder fast enough and yours must have fallen out long enough for them to see it and email you.

Here's an interesting site:

Maybe the Trump Train can still help our forsaken state.

Old thread. Just checking to see if anything has changed. I suspect not. Filed my application with the Santa Clara County Sheriff's office a couple of years ago, not a single word since.

Same here. I don't expect to ever get an LTC during Laurie Smith's reign.

Wow 7 years into the process, and no response.

I think I'm gonna call tomorrow and make a stink about this.
