They cashed my check like a week after I sent the papers in but it took almost 3 months till I had my license.

Postal worker picked up the envelope on 02-02-07

ATF deposited the check into their account on 02-08-08

Several months (4-5 as I recall) - I actually had to email the ATF and they followed up. Seems the application had been misplaced.

My California applications have always taken three months, but my Utah license arrived inside of one month. The time of year I applied may have had something to do with the extra wait.

It's here! Took 7 weeks and one day from when I dropped the application in the mail. Good news is that the renewal date is 3/1/11. I didn't loose any active time with the license.

I mailed my app. yesterday. It sounds like its the luck of the draw as to how fast you get it back. It only took a week to get the applicaton if thats worth anything.

I sent in my C&R app on 02/01, credit card charged on 02/07. Nothing in the mail yet.

I also sent in my Kali COE application on 02/04 and received it on 02/26. Oddly, they never cashed the check. I guess Kali doesn't need the $$.

I finally called the ATF today for a status update on my application. The very pleasant woman I spoke with informed me that my license had been issued on 03/27 and was in the mail.

So, 57 days from application to approval in Kalifornistan!

COE? what is this and what is the purpose of this? Do I need it for my C&R?

Read this over:

http://64.82.96.51/cal-ffl.htm

Here's the info at the end about COE:

"Under California law, the only thing a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) does for Class 03 (C&R) FFL holders is that it lets you skip the waiting period for C&R purchased in state from a dealer, and for now allows the purchase of more than one handgun (modern and C&R) per 30 days. You must have both a Class 03 (C&R) FFL and COE to do this! Even with the COE you still have to do a DROS form and background check and pay the fee each time, usually $20 + dealer mark up. So, unless you absolutely can't wait the 10 days, or need to buy more than one pistol per 30 days, the COE is a $72, plus cost of fingerprinting and annual $17 renewal fee that is probably wasted. It is often difficult to convince dealers about what the COE does."

Link to the COE application if you decide you want it:
