Default Ventura County application status/updates

This thread is for applicants that have ALREADY turned in applications post Feb 13, 2014 (I think is the date of the 9th circuit ruling).

Please share any updates you hear about your application you've submitted (denied, approved, interview etc etc).

If you do happen to be denied :-( please share why and if it's because of "good cause" or some other lame excuse they decide to say.

Default Submitted under revised policy.

Submitted application to Maria yesterday. My reason: "Self Defense." Technically a re-apply after denial, so no new fingerprints required. Last denial due to insufficient good cause statement... Will keep y'all posted.

Did you only put "self defense" in the good cause or did you elaborate a bit?

One or two weeks ago I called Jennifer, she made me an appointment. Then transferred me to a Detective who told me to cancel my appointment as he would re-open my packet that was denied last year (IIRC) for insufficient good cause statement.

I called and had my initial application reopened by a detective. I called on March 3rd. He said it'll be about a month before I hear back.

3-3-14: Called VCSD. Told I do not need to re-submit packet, they will re open my denied packet. Do not need to do livescan a second time.

3-13-14: Received a call from VCSD. I suppose this was my interview. It was essentially, have you had any moving violations or anything else we need to know about since your denial for good cause. Talked briefly about taking the CCW class and making sure that the instructor and I fill out the forms correctly. Told I should receive an approval letter in a month or so.

Are all interviews over the phone now?

I was told it would be in person but your situation is defferent.

I heard rumors that old applications that were being open that had already done the livescan and interview would not have to do it again. It wasn't even really an interview, they just asked me if anything had changed.

If you haven't yet done a livescan and interview (face to face) you will have to do it. Though it is completely possible that with all the applications being submitted that they aren't doing face to face's anymore.

Well there have been a few calgunners wondering if anyone who was denied previously for cause had received their letter of approval.

3 weeks ago I called VCSD in the wake of their memo's on the Peruta decision. Left a message with the detective informing him that I had been denied for cause early last year, though I wasn't sure why, as my cause was similar to those who had been approved previously. In light of the Peruta decision and the subsequent changes in VCSD policy was calling to check the status of my application.

The detective called me back and informed me that because I had been denied only for cause that my application would be picked up where it left off and processed for approval after another background check to ensure that nothing had changed. and to give it four weeks.

Today I received the following letter:

" Please be advised, the background investigation phase of your concealed weapons permit has been completed. This letter is to inform you to call our office to make arrangements to come in and sign the permit. You will also pay the remaining amount due for the permit. Also as a reminder you will need to qualify your weapon, or weapons for the permit. please contact one of our certified instructors."

good to go.

I currently reopened my case on 3/10 and was told that they would run my background and inform me of a approval. Sounds like the turn around isn't that long?

This is surprisingly compliant to the statute. If you have applied to the agency before, they cant require you to pay the DOJ/LiveScan fee again and make you get fingerprints--- unless more than two years has passed since your last LiveScan. (26185(b))

Turned in my app today. Everything went very smooth and the Lady's were awesome. Very kind and love to laugh. They were training a new lady and used me as a guinea pig for finger printing, let's hope that it speeds up the process some. She said 4 to 6 weeks to hear back from the DOJ. She said that she over heard some people further in the process saying that training centers are filling up with some with a month or two wait time.

I put in 12 separate reasons for good cause. I did it that way because if for some unforeseen reason the 9th reverses their decision I don't want the sheriff to pull the permit for no longer having good cause. Could bite me in the butt later we will see.

What is the opinion here on the GC statements? Is it okay to put down multiple GCs? I am of the same mind as Carnivore, I don't want to waste my money and time to be turned down if the Peruta ruling goes En Banc or to the Supreme. I have been told in the past that I have other GC statements that might work, but I don't want to jinx it if I should only be putting down self defense.

Opinions?

He could, he has the power, but probably not the will. Yet. Remember, Sheriff Dean is a politician and what do politicians care most about? Re-election. Fortunately we are a red enough county where approving all of us might not hurt his re-election chances. I am just not sure about putting down multiple GCs, does that weaken your application or strengthen it? Does it matter which order or priority you list GCs? Anyone on this thread who has been approved using multiples GCs?

Here is my timeline:

2/24 called and the detective reopened my denial (lack of good cause from an application a few years back).

3/1 Approval letter received contingent on qualification and final fee to be paid

3/17 CCW training completion

3/18 Paid final $80 and turned in training cert and told the final docs need to be signed off by the Sheriff and I would be contacted in a week to come in and get my "hard card" in a week.
