Appleseed in Corona, April 20-21, Patriot's Day Weekend! (4 Spots Left)
Come on out and join us for a weekend of rifle marksmanship and American heritage, this Patriot’s Day Weekend, April 20-21, at Raahauge's Range in Corona.
Learn (or refresh) the fundamentals of rifle marksmanship, reconnect with your heritage and challenge yourself with our version of the Army Qualification Test (AQT). Shoot an expert score on the AQT and you will earn the, often elusive, Rifleman patch. The April shoot is unique as it includes the annual Liberty Volley. We do this once a year to commemorate those early patriots who gave all in the uncertain hope that they could preserve freedom in the face of tyranny. Join us in celebrating the freedom they handed down to us! This will be a 25 meter event with both rimfires and centerfires welcome. Registration info is here: http://www.appleseedinfo.org/search-...ame=California Info about what to bring and how to prepare is here: http://www.appleseedinfo.org/as_prepare.html If you have questions, post ‘em up.

Well, well, well...
So there's going to be another Appleseed on Patriot's Weekend, eh? Here I thought I had the weekend all to myself at Burro Canyon, near Azusa. Methinks a little gauntlet-throwing is in order here. Your students against mine, LA County vs. Riverside, the mountains vs. the swamp. What say you, are you lot worthy of Isaac Davis's troop, or are ye all bound to languish on the Alarm List? All in fun, of course.

Swamp? Swamp you say! How dare you sir!
Such an affront cannot but be answered with a contest of worth. We IE and OC patriots shall show your LA glam crew that we know very well what we are about.

haha, yeah, swamp. In case you haven't checked your maps, Raahague's is part of a protected wetland. Much like the muck the Redcoats had to trudge through on that cold April morn...
Looks like a gentleman's (or gentlewoman's) challenge is entered then, sir. I recommend you keep your powder dry, for my students generally hit what they aim at. But as to the nature of the wager, I confess I am at a loss. My first instinct was to say "losing Shoot Boss cleans the winner's rifles," but as I know cleanliness is a cultural topic unheard of in your AO, that won't do. Hmm. Loser has to write a poem praising the lobsterback General Gage? Or is that not embarrassing enough?

I've heard of this Appleseed operation. Is this a good environment for newbies (I.e my sister in law that's taken a liking to shooting?)
Last time I went to the range it was a terrible learning environment with the macho motto guys screaming dumb stuff the entire time. Sad to say it was the Ontario PD doing it. Guess its just not the place to teach. Would a scoped Marlin 795 be good? Is the event setup so 2 people could share 1 weapon and not miss out in anything? |

Barracudamuscle,
Yes, Appleseed is a great place for beginners. We teach marksmanship fundamentals and we are very focused on safety. No drill instructor tactics here. I see a lot of scoped 795's on the line and they work great! Unfortunately, sharing a rifle does not really work well with our course of instruction. Often a loaner rifle can be arranged for, with enough notice. Let me know via PM if you decide you want to sign up for this shoot and we will see what we can do.

re: newbie friendly environment - I sent my wife while I looked after the kids and she had a fun and productive day. She's a decent shot with a handgun but had barely fired a rifle before and everybody was very patient with her. These things are put on by local volunteers and there may be some variation but it's a big goal of the organization to keep these things family friendly - they honor kids who come with special patches, etc.

What time should we plan on being done each day?
Also is it common for people to do the firs Saturday and not the Sunday? What would I miss on Sunday? |

We should be done at about 4:30pm on both days.
Saturday we cover a lot of material at a rapid pace we, often refer to it as "drinking from the firehose". Sunday is the day for integrating and tuning what was taught Saturday. Saturday material is briefly reviewed and expanded on as needed, and a lot more rounds go downrange as we shoot a number of Army Qualification Tests (AQT's). While Appleseed is definitely designed as a full weekend course, if this is your first Appleseed, and you can only come for one day, better by far to come on Saturday.

This was an awesome shoot!
This weekend saw a great group of people come together, honor our heritage, and have some serious fun! We minted six new riflemen and did the founders proud. I'll post up again when I get the After Action Report up. Also, stay tuned for the results of the Liberty Volley Challenge and details of the loosing Shoot Boss's humiliation.

Good People
Just a quick "Thank You" to Robert ,Richard and the whole crew (remembering all there names(5) is tough) But all of them treated David my son & I as spectators so well it deserves credit. We sat right in the middle of the group session.(invited by instructors) When I wanted to sit in the back of the class as not to distub the paying customers.
We will participate in Appleseed class soon just need to find 1000rds of .22lr (which is no easy task) |
