Talking Speaking of the Ruger PC (politically correct) 9mm Carbine

The local gunshop just happen to have a NIB Ruger PCC9 carbine I could get out the door for about $600. (Remember, this is Northern Commiefornia where prices are A LOT HIGHER).

Couldn't resist and started the DROS. Since they have the adapter to take Glock 9mm mags, and my EDC weapon is a Glock 19, and I have lots of high cap Glock mags from when I carried it as a duty weapon, I thought what the heck. It will be cheaper to shoot than either my 5,56 or 7.62x39 AR15s.

It is fairly heavy, at 6 lbs 10 ozs, but it handles, balances, and swings really nice. Its ghost ring rear with post and wing front sight should be pretty neat. I even have a vintage 30mm Tasco Accu-Dot, steel tube 1x shotgun red dot scope I may put on it.

Using the Glock 15 round LEO mags, it will be like having a 9mm M1 Carbine. I would love to chrono some Federal 9BPLE 115 +P+ loads from it and see what I get. since I get close to 1400 from the Glock, it should do about 1550 to 1600 from the carbine. I plan on getting a takedown bag, and keeping it behind the truck seat. I live in the Sierras and spend more time in the woods than down in the valley.

Damn, now I am like Ralphie in "A Christmas Story" waiting for hie Daisy Red Ryder BB Gun!

Not sure who is price gouging you...I am in Redding...I bought mine at Sportsman’s Warehouse for $525.00.

As stated above...Pistol Caliber Carbine.

Fun rig. I use mine for USPSA. There is some cool aftermarket parts for the. Taccom, Parker Mountain Machine, etc., makes go fast parts.

Taccom aftermarket parts are great. Also since BigBamBoo posted the Parker Mountain Machine's fore end, that is next on my list! Fun gun! You won't be disappointed in your purchase!

OP's price of $600 is the out-the-door price, not sticker price.

The "politically correct" statement is tongue in cheek. When you consider DROS fee and sales tax, that's what I paid, unless you paid $525 out the door.

Of course, the Ruger PCC9 will not be my main weapon: My pair of ARs: My 7.62x39 on the bottom and my 5.56 on the top.. California "Featureless" legal, with pinned stock, Sparrow Dynamics non-pistol grip, and muzzle brakes.

Are your muzzle brakes CERN-certified for no flash reduction?

Hahahaha! WTF I would be interested to see where in the Penis Code that is required! In fact, it only states flash hiders are prohibited, IIRC. You have been reading too much crap on the internet...

Got my PCC at Sportsman's Warehouse for $525 too.

Put a linear MB on the treaded barrel and added the rear sight rail which replaces the ghost ring, put a TRS25 on the rail and added a bigger bolt handle. Got the rail and bolt handle from Taccom. Don't think it needs anything else.

Bought for the same reason as the OP. Have a lot of G17 mags, lying around from my duty time and shooting 9mm is cheaper than shooting 223/308.

My intended use is primarily for HD. Keeping it on hand w/a G17 and a Remington 870 or Mossberg 930SPX makes for a good 3gun HD combo.

I have to admit, I have been chomping at the bit to get one, ever since I heard they were going to take Glock mags. I started carrying my Glock 19 as a duty weapon in 1993 or 1994, and before that I had a Glock 17. In fact, in the early 1980s, I was a rangemaster at a PD in Washington State. we carried S&W 9mms, and the Glock rep brought as one of the first Glock 17s in the county to try. I loved it, but the Chief wanted steel and wood. I bought a Gen 1 G17 as soon as they hit the market. I have also had a G20 10mm and a G21 45 ACP at various times. I even have a couple Glock 18 33 rounders that I had got to use in the Glock on entries, but they were too long. I used G17 +2s.

I thought the Ruger PC stands for "Peoples Carbine" in Kalifornistan jargon

the People's Republik of Kalifornia "Peoples carbine" Peoples Comrade model or "Friend"

Suggest digging around in the bottom of your magazine box. I'm sure you can find a couple 33 rounders down there.

Lol, sounds terrible. Iím tempted to pick one up.

What kind of ammo does it like? I usually shoot 124gr NATO 9mm in my PCC (AR and AKX-9).

I've got a few riveted 10/33s, but I hestitate bringing them to the range, even though legal, because of the curiosity and scrutiny they would invite.

Much less conspicuous to bring my 17 round G17 mags (I've got 9 of them) to the range. No one noticed or said a thing, which I prefer.

I had some reliability problems (failure to feed) first time out with mine. Hoping to nail down the cause... and a fix.

Ha! I was testing it with what I thought would be the ideal round for that gun... Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P. That actually functioned worse than the 147gr HST.

I'll try them again and be more analytical, paying attention to mags etc.

Had a few FTEs today but no FTFs w/115gr hardball factory reloads, which is the budget 9mm round that I normally shoot at the range.

Can keyhole the shots in the X ring at 25 yds. However, I'm having accuracy problems at 50 yds w/this ammo. Can keep the shots in a 3" group w/in the 10 ring on an 25 yrd NRA slow fire target at 50 yards using a,TRS25 red dot (the dot entirely covers the black at 50 yds) BUT I cannot get 3 shots to group together w/in the X ring (which is 1.75" in diameter and is my standard for rifle accuracy at any range); too many 10 ring "flyers."

Going to have to try some other ammo. Have a lot of 147g JPH that I avoid shooting because it's more expensive but will try out a few hundred rounds to see if I can get greater accuracy out of it.

I would love some of the old IMI (Uzi brand) 9mm "carbine loads" with the black tip. We used them in our Department Uzi and MP5s (back in the 80s), and even tried them in the 9mm Marlin Camp 9 we evaluated for a patrol rifle. It was hot SMG ammo. We did not use it in our S&W Model 59s because it was so hot. It broke the plastic buffer in the Camp 9 before we even finished one magazine!. We also had a bunch of 25 round pasteboard battle pack boxes, with a pull string and with Hebrew writing on them. One of the guys spoke Hebrew and he said it was "For UZI and Sten SMGs ONLY" or something like that. It was way too hot for our S&Ws, but I took a bunch to a two week Rangemaster School, and used it in a Browning Hi-power. It cetainly knocked the poppers down with authority, and bucked like a 357 in the Browning.

One of the guys at the club has one. He said it gobbles up +Ps, and the hotter 124 Winchester Nato rounds (124 qt about 1200 fps). Doesn't like cheap Walmart 100 packs of Federal or Winchester (115 at 1100 fps). I'll try Speer 124 +P Gold Dots, Federal 9BPLE +P+ 115s, and some Winchester 124 Nato. I have all of the above because my Glock loves all of the above. I also have some 147s and 115 cheap stuff I'll try.

I read somewhere awhile ago that a guy was feeding his Federal Hydrashock 124 grain +P+ LE ammo, and it was great. It gave about 1500 fps. I'll try to find that.

I shoot 147's out of mine, 130 PF out of my handgun, runs flawlessly. Fun to hear guys at matches say damn that little gun really runs. Funnier when it was 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of what they are shooting and it never has issues.

I really need to stop clicking your threads rangemaster, I am in the no buying mentality right now, but I've also been browsing the Ruger PC threads, and I shouldn't be. LOL

Meh... I dont need a 9mm carbine to compete with my pistols for ammo. As far as practical self defense use, a 9mm carbine will never be superior to a .223/5.56 or 7.62x39 carbine. I would NEVER rely on a pistol round to do the job of a rifle round. I just picked up a 10/22 because I figure if Im just going to be using something for a range toy and plinking, no sense in over thinking it. .22lr is way cheaper than 9mm. And I need all the 9mm I can get to feed my pistols.

Not mine. My softly loaded competition ammo runs like a dream.

Seen lots of videos with malfunctions but that certainly hasn't been my experience

I run WWB 115gr Ammo through mine exclusively....not one hiccup in close to 4000 rounds so far.

I do run mine wet and break it down and clean it after every match.

YMMV

Have either of you guys used a chronograph to calculate power factor with your Ruger PCC ammo?

Yes. Here you go:

1.110" OAL
0.3785" crimp
Mixed brass
147gr ACME FP Hi-Tek Coated (actual bullet weight measured 146.5gr)
Outside temp ~60 degrees F
Chronograph placed 10 ft from muzzle
N=10 rounds fired per string

Tanfoglio Stock 2:
3.1gr Titegroup: avg 890, es 18, sd 8, 130 PF
3.1gr Prima V: avg 897, es 15, sd 4, 131 PF

Glock 17:
3.1gr Titegroup: avg 902, es 30, sd 9, 132 PF
3.1gr Prima V: avg 899, es 17, sd 5, 131 PF

Ruger PCC:
3.1gr Titegroup: avg 1000, es 29, sd 9, 146 PF
3.1gr Prima V: avg 976, es 27, sd 7, 143 PF

Edit to mention... I have 1,000 rounds through the PCC so far. Exclusively my reloads, mostly the 3.1gr Titegroup

I’ve seen the vids with stoppages also, but like trackcage and others I’ve not had any problems with mine either. I’ve also been shooting my handloads, mixed brass with 124g plated HP, 4.5g W231. Purposely shot it with high cap aftermarket Glock mags to see if it would have any FTF or FTE, but had neither.

I bought a Sig R5 red dot for it, but I’m not sure if I want to use it. I’m liking the iron peep sights on it and may just run it like Ruger made it.

I have a vintage Tasco Accu-Dot steel tube 1X red dot I may use, but I will try it with iron sights first. Using my ballistic calculator, a 9mm at 1400 fps, when zeroed POA/POI at 100 yards, will be less than 3" high at 50 yards. I am guessing since I get just shy of 1400 fps from my Glock using 9BPLE +P+, it would be safe to assume it would be 1400-1500 fps from the Ruger PCC9.

I'm 500+ rounds in and I've had literally zero malfunctions. This is with 124 gr factory ammo and my 115 gr reloads (both spicy and mild).

I wonder if aftermarket mags like Magpul are as reliable as Glock factory? I have a couple old Ramline 14 rounders from back in the day that SUCK in my Glock 19.!

Thatís what Iíve been using in mine, magpul and Korean made and Iíve had no problems with them. I purposely used them because Ruger said they do not guarantee it to work with them and wanted to see if it would. So far so good, Iíll see if it keeps working with them.
