Default Process in Kern county

Has anyone recently gone through it? The nice lady in the SO told me it takes about 6 to 8 weeks, but stated she is actually supposed to tell me it takes 3 months.
So what has been your experience? I turned in my application on 9-24-12 If I am not mistaken.

I hope I get approved! I offered 3 reasons, and managed to fit it all on one page being effective, I hope, and to the point.

If anyone is interested in turning one in, there is good information on this website that user El-Gato has provided.

I turned the packet in 9-7-12. If I hear anything back ill post it up. Everything that I've seen lately points to 8-9 weeks before receiving a letter.

I turned in the application to the local sheriff station who then took it to Bakersfield. I had the approval letter in hand less than a month later.

Thats basically what they said to me when I turned mine in - that it is heading up to bakersfield.

Glad to hear the process moves a little better here in Kern.

The person also said that I would have to go to bakersfield. Is that for the interview?

Mine went like this:

Turned in application at substation where I live.

Got approval letter in 4 weeks.

I took the class 2 weeks later.

Got all paperwork together (training cert, birth cert, etc.) and went to Bakersfield the day after my class. They copied my paperwork, made sure everything was correct on the application, and did the Livescan fingerprinting. I was then told 6-8 weeks.

My permit arrived at the substation 9 weeks later...so total elapsed time for the process was about 15 weeks. It may have gone just slightly quicker if I'd not have gone through the substation (?).

There is no interview in Kern County.

I received mine in August. Took 2 months for my approval letter and another 2 for my permit to arrive.

Hmm... Well, different for everyone I guess.

I am actually expecting my wait time to be about two months as well, but who knows, I will just have to be patient. I got so much going on right now that I will most likely forget about it soon enough anyway.

Thanks for the input!

I got mine about a month ago. 7 weeks for the approval letter and 3 weeks after getting finger printed they called and said your permit is ready.

I just wanted to dust this thread off.

So, for me the total process time was about 2 months and 2 weeks (APPX).

It took about 5 weeks total, if I am not mistaken. Luckily I was very busy and the time flew by for me... That could either be a good or bad thing when life passes too fast!

My renewal just came up and normal guy doing the class (Kern County) for the last 10 years is out of state and I needed a class quickly. I called Butch at Southern Shooter Supply in Tehacapi and he got me in before I expired. He did the renewal in a great and thorough way and will do through him from now on. Did renewal on 11/26 and still waiting on new permit (takes 2-3 weeks every 2 years so do it early so you dont have to wait to carry for a week or two.

Tex

I turned in my app in mid July of this year and recieved my permit on Nov 1st. I wanna say it took right about 3 weeks from the time i droped off the CCW class paperwork/live scan to the point that i got the call to come and get it. Took the class with Power's security and would highly recomend them.

Good luck and carry safe,
Anyo

UPDATE 125 Days from application to permit

10-30-12 took class from El Gato (out of sequence I know)
11-6-12 Turned in app
1-23-13 Approved
1-24-13 fingerprinted (class certificate 5 days away from expiring)
3/11/13 Pickup permit

4/10/13 Will return to add the actual firearm I want to carry. New policy will not allow any adds until 30 days after permit issued. They used to make changes on pickup day not any more. Bummer
