Default Action Pistol Match 2/9/13 at the Deadwood Boys Range (including AAR and Videos)

The next Deadwood Boys (Piru) Action Pistol match of 2013 is coming up this Saturday, February 9th, 2013.

What do you need?
You, your handgun (.380 or better), and 300 rounds of ammo. Match fees are $20 for Deadwood Boys or X3 members and $30 for non-members. Remember: YOU DO NOT NEED TO STOP AT THE PUBLIC RANGE TO PAY RANGE FEES IF YOU ARE ATTENDING A MATCH
Just do it.

For more information go here: http://www.deadwoodboys.org/ and if you have any questions please feel free to post them up.

New to competition shooting or Deadwood Boys matches? Well, come on out, we are super noob friendly and will walk you through the course. Ask around, no better place to be an FNG.

This event is growing every month as more and more shooters are spreading the word. You will be hard-pressed to find a more fun match around.

So, make plans, check the website for directions, come on out on Saturday, and have some fun.

Please note: Breakfast and Lunch will be prepared and served by our amazing chef, Latin Gun, at an additional cost.

Awesome. I was out there yesterday practicing myself. Stage 1 and 5 are still set up from X3 and are some great practice stages.

Awesome. I just ordered some new gear that should hopefully arrive in time. New CR Speed Belt and Mag Pouches and a Drop-Offsett adapter for my Blade-Tech holster. Now all I really need is my magwell which should hopefully be back in stock in a week or so.

Well you certainly didn't leave me much brass!

Actually I spent the first 20 minutes or so up there, picking up the garbage! I think that either the horses..or the cattle..or both got into 3 of the trash cans and spread things all over bay 3. I couldn't see making Joe and the others that set up the bays for us having to pick that up as well so...heck, I had my work gloves!

Good practice..ready for Saturday!

I HAVE to practice...hey, it takes a lot of work to be as bad as I am!!!

I will say this. When I go to practice I have one exercise that I do first, EVERY time. I have my gun and I have my mags and I run a bay..with NO ammo. I do this for a number of reasons but the main reason is safety. I try to work on my muscle memory so that my body will do what it is supposed to do. Finger on the outside of the trigger guard during transitions; gun always pointed in the right direction; 180 rule; safe mag changes. If for any reason I am not happy with the run, I do it again and again until I am happy happy.

I am one of the first in line to say that the shooting in Piru is just fun as hell! But it ain't fun if someone gets hurt so safety has to ALWAYS come first. So if I can train my muscles to do what they need to, then I can concentrate on a bonus or two.

It's been dry here in Oxnard. I would think piru is fine. It is mostly the creek, if it rains enough the pass for the creek gets washed out. They just rebuild it with a back hoe or bulldozer after a good rain. Do not see this one as qualifying.

'Fraid I have to bow out today guys!

Picked up a head cold and despite my best efforts to beat it, it is beating me!

My head is in the clouds so I don't feel good about shootin'. Plus, I don't want to share this with you folks so...

...next time!

Great match today! It started off a little cold, okay it was effing freezing, but warmed up quickly and was quite nice all day. Kudos to Lefty Longridge and everyone at the Deadwood boys for designing some really fun stages. The stages were a great mix of speed and precision with a couple of "hidden" targets that really made you pay attention. The new dueling tree was rolled out today as well and was a lot of fun. I had 2 stage wins today and finished 2nd overall and in-class, beating some very tough competitors. Just one more match before I head to Arizona for Spring Steel. Here are the videos from the day:

Stage 2:

Stage 3:
