Default Red AR uppers and lowers

Ok, I am not going to say where (you can figure it out from my other threads), but I just saw an interesting sight. A whole box of matched upper and lower AR receivers. Custom logos and such. But here is the kicker. They were all anodized red. We are talking Star Wars Imperial Guard red. It was weird. They looked fairly cool, in a mall-ninja or I'm-from-the-Internets kind of way. I didn't take any pictures because I don't know who's they were. But it did get me thinking. What other colors would look cool? Rather than duracoating, or any of the other spray-on finishes, would anybody be interesting in a group buy of lowers or uppers and lowers in FDE or foliage green?

That would be cool to have, just for novelty value.

Heh.. Those are actually mine and there is a very good non-mall-ninja reason why they are red.

I'm thinking competition shooters would want them. I've seen all kinds of goofy colors on ARs. Spikes like to do this.

Cool. Can you explain those reasons and the logo? The color looked awesome. Not something I would pick for most things. But striking none the less. And can you post some pictures when you are done?

Heh, this is funny. This post is actually the first I had heard of them being done. The last time I talked to the manufacturer they came back from the anodizers, but the colors were extremely inconsistent and wrong, so they were going BACK to the anodizers to get put right in the proper red color.

It's really weird hearing about your own top secret'ish project via a third party on a public forum

They are not for you

35 sets have been made (upper/lower/CH), and 35 sets are all that will be made. And all 35 sets have been sold.

The first AR I ever saw for sale on a CA shelf about two years ago was completely red (though it may have been duracote, I don't remember).

Had an A2 stock that was glossy, and handguards that were glossy. The rest was matte red. I almost bought it until I found out it was left handed. Was being sold on consignment at the shop by an LEO that used it for competition shooting. he said he go all the parts on gunbroker and they were all red when he started (and he bought them new).

...I am interested to know what the heck BDSMCHS is up to tho... I shouldn't even care- it's just the human nature in me...

Well, so far as I can guess:
Red= Non firing gun, for manipulation training etc.
Blue=Simunition gun, for use in force on force training.
Yellow=Less Lethal gun, fires stuff that is gonna knock your d#### in the d##t but not trying to kill you.

Wasn't there a thread about Orange County gangmembers painting their real firing guns red in order to confuse law enforcement,,,trying to gain the moment of hesitation to win in an encounter........

I know the custom colors are cool, just would be careful about how the custom painted weapon is used. The Hello Kitty guns for the little ones are cool

There is life outside of Calguns

It's a group buy for a small brotherhood of individuals unrelated to Calguns. While a couple of Calguns members are getting these, (like Quiet, for example) they are not for Calguns.

You will notice, I did not disclose the logo, the manufacturer, or anything else about them. They do look good, at least what I could see through the wrapping. And no, I did not unwrap any of them. How much did they end up running you guys per set?

You can do this at home. Anodizing kits are available and a lot easier than Chroming and such.

It would be nice to have a sticky in the gunsmithing section on how to anodize your completed 80% receivers!

Make this thread a sticky, and I'll add some details to the anodizing part, and answer questions.

White Oak does a bunch of the high power uppers and spacegun style uppers also. They look pretty cool for the competition scene.
