Hey NRP,
Is it possible to get a pic of what parts you have received so far?

What parts do you still need?

I'll take a pic and post it tomorrow. Pretty much need a stripped upper, barrel assembly, buffer tube. Most of a lpk (a guy said he's sending a trigger). Will update with a more thorough list tomorrow along with a pic.

Thanks guys.

I would rather you observe and direct the op in assembling "his" rifle himself. At least then he has (not much), but some skin in the game (his labor). Yes, it's more time consuming than doing it for him, but he (and you) would be better for it.

As opined above, if you do follow through on this and donate it to another new Calgunner to learn from, I think it would benefit the next person who gets the AR to receive it "FULLY DISASSEMBLED". That way they can benefit from some sweat equity in the assembly and learn in the process (from a "local to them" Calgunner who would volunteer their time in supervising the assembly)

Ideally, if set up properly, this "Pay it Forward" could be used to introduce people to the AR platform. Time frame to pass it forward? Quarterly? 2x's a year? Not sure if it's a valid concept in the end though.... the the only risk is a $35 transfer fee..... since all parts are donations from other Calgunners, the OP isn't out much.

Some might be more willing to donate parts if they knew their gift will be one that "Keeps on Giving", so to speak....... not just passing on the rifle, but acctually "Teaching" some one how to build an AR.

shamelessly stolen from arfcom's guide: here is a list of all lower parts needed for the receiver. http://www.ar15.com/content/guides/assembly/lower/

SPRINGS
Bolt Catch Spring - easily confused with the disconnector spring; disconnector spring is tapered though.
Buffer Retainer Spring - second largest spring in the kit.
Disconnector Spring - similar to bolt-catch spring, but identifiable because one end is wide than the other.
Hammer Spring - larger of the two similar springs.
Magazine Catch Spring - this is the largest spring in the kit.
Pivot Detent Spring - same as the takedown detent spring, so there are two in a kit.
Selector Spring - similar to the takedown and pivot detent springs, but there will only be one of these.
Takedown Detent Spring - same as the pivot detent spring, so there are two in a kit.
Trigger Spring - the smaller of the two similar springs.

PINS
Bolt Catch Buffer
Bolt Catch Roll Pin - smaller of the two roll pins.
Hammer Pin - same as trigger pin; can be inserted from either side.
Pivot Detent - same as takedown detent; both sides usually rounded.
Pivot Pin - larger of the two large pins.
Selector Detent - one end is flat, the other pointed.
Takedown Detent - same as pivot detent; both sides usually rounded.
Takedown Pin - smaller of the two large pins.
Trigger Guard Roll Pin - larger of the two roll pins.
Trigger Pin - same as hammer pin; can be inserted from either side.

Bolt Catch
Buffer Retainer
Disconnector
Hammer - will have a J-pin already installed.
Magazine Catch
Magazine Catch Button - some are plastic, some metal.
Pistol Grip Lock Washer
Pistol Grip Screw - some are Allen-head, some use a slotted pan-head screw
Selector
Trigger
Trigger Guard - some are metal, some plastic. Will already have a detent installed on its front end.

you should see what you have and not have and update the 1st post.

I like your ideas Southwest. Having the next person assemble the AR to learn is awesome. I think I'll do that.

This picture shows the parts I have so far. Lower. Bolt assembly. Barrel. Stock. Pistol grip. Foregrip. Charging handle. I pretty much need an upper and internal parts.

Thanks for reading guys! And thanks for all the help.

So it looks like you still need:
Upper receiver.
Barrel nut.
Delta ring kit.
Buffer tube kit.
Lower parts kit.

Almost there.

I have a stripped upper you can have, I was gonna throw it away because it looks like it has stress cracks from over torque. I also practiced some engraving on it. I'm in Sacramento send a pm. I might also be able to spare a delta ring and barrel nut.

Wow guys! Look at everything that has come in. I met with NATE76239 for the stripped upper this morning. Thank you so much! And thanks to everyone else who has donated! The only parts left that are needed are a
Forward assist
Lower parts kit
Takedown pins
Buffer tube assembly

Thanks you all so much! Chazbot...I have a feeling I'll be seeing you soon to learn how to properly assemble it!

Seems like it wouldn't hurt anything, sure.

Sounds good. Remember that if you have everything except the lower parts/take down pins (which are typically part of the LPK), I can provide those since I have tons of em.

It's almost complete. Toby is sending a BUIS and another Calgunner is sending an LPK and buffer assembly. Next up is a stop to Chazbot!

I think you are missing the point of this thread. The OP's stated objective is to freeload the whole rifle without spending any money.

It may be useful for the Mods to create a "Want For Free" section, because "Want To Buy" isn't really applicable here.

Give it a rest Bobby,
He didn't beg, he asked, there's a big difference, that's why I helped him out.
What's it hurting anyway?

Why do you always have to crap on everything?

Get a life.

Nice sig by the way. Lol

This is a very interesting thread. I am also part of of other firearms forum but this thread makes a proud member of calguns.

OP, I do not have any AR parts to donate but I will give you a box of 50 rounds of Remington 223 when are ready to test your AR. Best of lucks on the project!

Here's something I was just thinking about. What if this NRP guy builds this rifle out of nothing but donated parts, gets donated mags and ammo, and then goes on a shooting rampage and leaves a note saying he did it all with hand-me-down parts for free and it didn't cost him a dime other than $35 to register the lower throught ppt. Imagine that?

What if this NRP person (who can't afford a rifle, how will he afford to shoot???) only wants the rifle put together for the sole purpose of taking the completed rifle to the media and write a big story on how calguns helped him build a rifle through charity and how easy it was to do it and any crazy stupid bastard can do the same???

Anyone ever think about that???? I would never give this kid sh1t, not even a goddamn rifle round. I work hard to maintain my hobby, even when I worked part time sales and went to school full time. I bought a cheap a55 Phoenix Arms 22lr and started plinking with a brick of 22 ammo when they were going for $15 for 500 rounds. This guy can't do that??? Then you don't belong here, this hobby is NOT for you buddy.

Flame me I don't care. Just a thought.

Hey aaaslayer,
Those are all perfectly legitimate concerns and thanks for posting. First off, I'm just seeing what the generosity of others can bring and it is quite astounding. Second, I'm big on firearm rights and will not do anything to sully our constitutional rights (also I did everything legally). Third, this hobby is for me and this is just to get my foot in the door. The rifle will be passed on to help get other people who maybe can't afford the hobby yet get involved as well. If you have any concerns feel free to contact me.
Either way, I appreciate the input and concern.
Thank you all and BUMP.

Would be nice if once the rifle is assembled, if the OP and all the contributors could meet up at one of the Monthly Calguns shoots at Buro for the inaugural fireing and a group photo of the willing.

I need a barrel for free if people are giving away parts, also a bcg... I have 3 ARs already that I paid for, just had a baby and can't see spending my hard earned money on another build, but hell, if this is the free section I'll take what I can get!

Yeah... Really... How crazy does that sound that people want something for nothing? That hard working people must pay for what they want, when people who don't work get free stuff all the time...

I keep trying to forget about this infuriating thread, but the OP keeps shaking the tin cup back to the top of the heap, forcing me to see it. If I had the rest of the parts the OP is looking for I would gladly just........

take a picture of them getting heaved into the dumpster out back.
