Default Va, Non Resident permit

Just wanted to give everyone an idea on time frame with permit.

I applied on Feb 18th and just now received a letter in the mail from Vagina, saying they received my application and payment. It will be 120 days form the date on letter. That date was March 10th. Seems like they are back logged. It is taking a couple weeks for them to start the process.

Arizona is running about three weeks, I'm not sure what advantage Virginny offers.

There is really no reason to obtain a VA non-resident permit, so many other superior options.

Online classes are still accepted.

I've seen them for as little as $20.

Permit $100, class $20, prints $7.50-10, picture $4.50. Pretty close to being the cheapest to get.

100+20+7.50+4.50 = $132 And you can't get the prints or the pic online...

Arizona cost me $140 and it was a one stop shop. I'm having a hard time justifying trying to save $8 and having to wait another couple months, are there people that are really that cheap?

Sadly, yes.

$132 for non-resident? Damn.
My resident permit was $27 and took 2 1/2 weeks.
I guess it doesn't apply for non-resident, but the law states that they can't take more than 45 days to issue the permit.

I implore anyone looking at getting a non-resident CCW from Virginia to not be deterred by the misinformation in this thread.

Virginia is now the only state that does not require the applicant complete an in-person, time-consuming, and oftentimes very expensive firearms safety/training course. Virginia still accepts online training courses as acceptable proof of firearms competency. If you have already completed a firearms training course of any kind, then this obviously does not apply to you. But for those that have had no formal training prior to applying for their CCW, the inexpensive online course is appealing. Please note I'm not advocating for untrained individuals to carry concealed, just merely stating the advantages of the Virginia permit process, in my eyes.

Also, the non-resident Virginia CCW is nearly identical to what the non-resident Arizona permit offers as far as coverage goes. The only difference, is that Georgia, Vermont, and Delaware recognize the Arizona permit and not the Virginia permit. For most of us here on the west coast, these states are of nominal importance.

If you've never applied for or had a CCW before, Virginia is the easiest, cheapest, and least time consuming way to obtain a non resident CCW today. The Arizona permit once was the easiest and cheapest non resident permit to get for many years, but no longer. Do your homework and be safe.
