Default What ARE the FAQs for this forum?

One member was looking for a BOB thread, and didn't find it on the first page!

Well, we all miss stuff.

We already have about all the sticky threads that people will actually use - Firearms in Forests and Parks, Body Armor, HAM radio operator list, and the free military manuals thread. I don't think any of those should be un-stuck.

What I'd like to do is add ONE MORE STICKY - it'll actually be this one - and call it INDEX TO FAQ THREADS.

Obviously, BOB will be in it. Generators seem a good one.

So, what else?

Now, this is a two-part task. Knowing what you want to see is obviously important.

But, almost all of those things have been answered or discussed here in the past (thus "FAQ"). We have threads to mine, if only we could locate them.

http://www.google.com/coop/cse?cx=01...78:pzxbzjzh1zk, while imperfect, helps a lot.

So, if you have time, please add a reply to this thread (I'm going to quickly add a couple of replies below this one, for possible overflow) and tell us what FAQ you're identifying, and if possible, find a couple of threads you think are worth reading about that topic. Off-forum links are fine.

Then, when the traffic slows down, in a week or two, I'll collect all the answers into an alphabetized list in this first post, and re-name this thread. It will remain open to add new questions to the list, and for more suggestions of sources.

Please help ...

A bit of search help...

Use the right side 'Search this Forum' link, 'Advanced search'

For settings,
* look only in thread titles,
* look for threads in the last year, and
* look for threads with some minimum number of replies - I just used 30.

Then, search for a keyword - "food", "knife" etc.

That strategy is sure to miss some good info; not all threads have good titles, and not only threads from the last year are the valuable ones.

I think 'where to buy' threads probably have a fairly short shelf-life in the details of products and prices, but maybe sources might be stable enough.

Modern Survival Blog looks interesting, too -- http://modernsurvivalblog.com/categories/

Just spent time looking through 5 or 6 articles on water.
