Jc higgins 30 years made?
I picked up a jc higgins semi in 22. I bought it because it was different. Seller said it was from the 70s. Finally got off my behind and cleaned it. Did some research and it seems they were only made from 1952 to 1956? Or so from Google.
Maybe someone here is more of a expert? Sent from my LG-TP450 using Tapatalk

Congratulations, that looks in great condition for its age.
I like the left-hand sided cocking bolt. ..for when you got to get tactical with your plinking. I've seen a video, where in a state that allow silencers, the shooter was holding the bolt closed on a similar designed 22 rifle (something that's harder to do but not impossible with a right hand side charging bolt) just so it was extra quiet without the sound of the bolt reciprocating. ... in case the plinking you're doing involves sneaking up on multiple enemy watermelons with good hearing. If you don't mind sharing what was a rough ballpark number that you paid for it? Last edited by sealocan; 05-27-2019 at 11:42 AM.. |

Thank you for the kind words. I had never seen or heard of the jc30. Saw the post and had to have it. At least for the funky factor. Shoots well but have to use cci hi vel. With golden bullets, they fire but fte. Have to use a screwdriver to get them out. Sent from my LG-TP450 using Tapatalk

I have the Model 30 - or 31, don't quite recall, but the charging handle is on the right side. The J C Higgins line was marketed by Sears until 1962 when it was replaced by the Ted Williams line. Your rifle may or may not have a serial number, since being manufactured prior to 1968 it wasn't required by law.
If you're inclined to put a period correct scope on it Weaver made JC Higgins branded scopes in both centerfire and rimfire version. I have a rimfire 4X with Higgins mount that looks right and works fine. Similar to this, except with a brass turret. https://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-J-C...ss!94109!US!-1 Last edited by dfletcher; 05-27-2019 at 3:19 PM.. |

Its just such a cool Americana rifle. Happy to find out she's 20 years older than I thought. Lol. How many old guns does it take to be a collector? Sent from my LG-TP450 using Tapatalk

Weaver made a V7 rimfire scope in the 70's. Be careful buying older (1960s and older) scopes on the net. Hard to spot cracked seals, lens scratches, etc unless handling them in person. I get most of mine at gun shows. Re reliability, my action was caked with dried gunpowder so thick I had to completely strip the gun and splash Hoppes #9 on every moving part. For about 3 days in a row. Grey and chalky through and through. Last edited by dfletcher; 05-28-2019 at 3:24 PM.. |

High Standard made firearms from around 1934 to going belly up around 1980-ish.
From around 1948-50 to about 1962 they had a deal with Sears and JC Higgins made firearms were frequently High Standards in Sears clothing. If it has a code such as 583.xxxx, the 583 meant High Standard. Ted Williams became the namesake for Sears-brand guns around 1962. High Standard factory manuals are available here: John Stimson's High Standards Manuals Just go to the Sears section. That page will come down in October, BTW. If you were unaware, rimfirecentraldotcom has a wonderful High Standard subsection. You might go there for more insight.
