But it was mildly entertaining, so not a total waste of time.

I think about my best friend in this situation, and if he ever presented me with this scenario, I would be seriously pissed and disappointed.

True friends don't jerk you around like that.

Who the hell was he trying to kid?

....... I wouldn't have reported it myself.....having to repair whatever it was in my house I shot, while dealing with the wife's wrath, is enough punishment.
Im thinking Id do likewise. Id check where the fired round went, and as long as it didnt leave the property, no ones the wiser.

The worst would be my own embarrassment knowing Id f...ed up royally.

Similar but completely different situation: when I last renewed my permit, there was a question asking if Id ever been involved in a firearm incident. I asked the interviewer if the time I was the recipient of a ND .25 round, caught in my left bicep from across the room 55 years prior should be documented. Interviewer said yes, so I put it on the form. Since my only fault was being in the way of the bullet, I cant see where it would have any impact on my CCW. Police were involved in original incident. I still carry that little thing in my back. No lasting effects.
