We purchased a Asus ROG (Republic of Gamers) laptop for my son his HS graduation and for college. He LOVES is and is a huge gamer. He said it smokes his desktop and would not go back. We got is at Costco online a while ago. As I recall it was about $1200 including the extended warranty.

I looked up the specifics of my order.
We got the ASUS ROG GL753VE Laptop for him. Total cost w/ 3 yr warranty was $1227 shipped w/ tax.

Just so happens it is on sale right now:

I use that one and I can run everything I play. In my opinion if you are on a tighter budget its better to build a desktop for the best bang for your buck. If you need something you can also take everywhere (like I did) computers with similar specs to this will get you by for most games.

Acer Predator Helios 300 is also a good choice.

Try for Sony Vaio or Mac. Both of them I like a lot.

I have an older MSI that has been great. They have a few models in each price point depending on what features you want. Do note that to get the full power they do need to be plugged into the wall just FYI.
