I don't know whether this will work: it's my only video I've taken; it's about 25 seconds.

This is my Maple Mauser stock, rescued from a fire at American Gunstocks (gunstocks.com). When I got it it was burned in many places, making me patch it in eight places with some other Maple. I dowled in all the strips. It was injured mostly along the barrel channel on both sides and in the inlet well near the bolt. In the pic, it has a winter trigger guard on it, but now it has the "summer" one.

The finish is pine tar first in the Finnish style, then boiled linseed oil rubbed in, which is what you see here, wet. Below will be one pic of the finished rifle.

http://s243.photobucket.com/albums/f...t=P1010074.mp4

The rifle with it is a 91/38 restoration finished with pure Tung oil.

Beautiful wood. I like the recoil pad on the Mosin.

This Mosin came from Big 5 exactly like this. I didn't do anything to it.

Speaking of wood, can anyone tell me if making my own rifle carrying cases is a plausible idea? Being that I have a cabinet shop and all? Because except for perhaps the weight issue, I've a feeling that this could be as much fun as when I used to make tackle boxes and skate boards and camera cases.....

You should give it a try!
I wish I had my own wood shop, I would give it a try. Weight would be a key problem, although I'm sure there is a market for display cases. In fact, if you look at the rifle case a few posts above yours, I would bet there is a market for replicas like that.

Jfc, I spent some time last night looking at wooden carrying cases, boxes and shelf-type display stands. Wowch, they're definitely not cheap. Single oak ply rifle cases starting at $450.00? Hmmmm, looks like Ricky may have found another way to keep the saws running.......

My Dad and I made one right around 30 years ago and I still use it. While a bit on the heavy side it's definitely going to protect what's in it. I'll have to take pictures and post it when I can get it out of the closet.

Doubt gunboards will think that is funny, let me see you try it on the French rifle forum bunny. It's not a joke when you deride members of armed forces and Veterans. But then as a wantabe you wouldn't understand.
