That's an EXCELLENT article, giving an overview of CCWs in CA and breakdown by county.

A CCW license means that if a person chooses to carry a weapon, it has to be concealed, not visible to anyone else. “It doesn’t mean just under a jacket, because if that jacket flops open and you can see the weapon, it’s not concealed,” Mims said. Nor can a gun be carried under a tight shirt so that the outline of the gun is visible.
The article says that printing is illegal. I thought that it wasn't.

It's not. Probably IA unofficial "condition"? In general, probably good practice not to print. Be a gray man.

Mims is also overstating the jacket-flops-open thing; accidental exposure is not illegal, but if that results in a MWAG call, the issuing agency May Have A Reaction.

I was in the supermarket once and saw a 400 Lbs. guy dressed in a bright red T shirt that was stretched so tight that I could identify the 1911 on his hip.

I always marvel at numbers like these:

San Francisco County
No. of CCW permits: 2
County population: 887,540
CCW permits per 1,000 residents: 0.0

Los Angeles County
No. of CCW permits: 424
County population: 10,278,836
CCW permits per 1,000 residents: 0.0

The sad thing is LA County would be the tenth most populous state if it were in the union. Yet depriving CCW for all is not an issue for even the high courts.

I knocked the dust off of my old CA DOJ BoF CCW stats charts and, between 1987 and 2007 we bounced between 30k (1990) and 45k (2003) CCWs statewide. According to the news article in the OP, as of 2018 July 01 were had 120k CCWs -- ~3 to 4 times as many! That in itself is reason to party.

Since last July, San Diego Co SO has increased its rate of issuance and Sonoma Co's new sheriff, Essick, took his county (including all the cities), from red to light green. In Yolo Co Lopez has become sheriff and he wants to hear from the counties residents regarding liberalizing CCW issuance or not. IOW, we've had some wins since breaking the record with 120,000 CA CCWs.

Improved CCW issuance is one of the few bright 2nd A lights we have in CA.
