I take the test on the 17th in Berdoo. Any tips? I'm waiting on the practice book that was mentioned on the web site. The library is taking their sweet time.

It was actually pretty easy. Few terms didn’t make sense, seemed like they were from 18th century England

He says there were 4 questions he had to guess at but was pretty certain on the rest. So we shall see...he doesn't have any veterans points or a commercial drivers license, and those get extra points.

Thanks!

Make sure you have your contact info updated. Would hate for someone to miss
such an important phone call. I'm crossing my fingers.
The test seemed a little too easy. Im thinking most people probably scored
pretty well.

Yes it was pretty easy I'm thinking alot od people scored pretty good, only scary part about that is how many openings will they have to allot for all these high scoring candidates.

One thing to keep in mind about IUOE ... it's an old school, Left wall bangin' Labor Union ... 2A friendly at the Member level, but otherwise as "Liberal" as it gets. As apprentices were we expected to walk our district knocking on doors and manning phones. It'll be a tough row to toe if you can't squelch your conservative feelings. But you won't beat the money at the OJT level ANYWHERE. It's a great skill, plenty of opportunity if you're willing to travel, lots of work on the horizon, and I don't think there's a cheaper way to get a CDL anywhere (unless maybe your dad is OO).

^^^ All true, I got into an argument with my Instructor once when they were pushing Clinton hard, he said they didn’t care about gun control and other issues, only who put money in your pockets. I told him I can always get another job, I can’t get my rights back once there gone. Needless to say he didn’t like that much. Most members were very pro2a but the union money always went to the Dems and we had little say in that. I never campaigned or knocked on doors for them.

It is great training and most of the instructors are great, it’s been 20 years and they still remember me when I see them at construction conferences. My advice to anyone that gets in, try to get into running Cranes, top pay and your first and last on the job. And your not breathing dirt all day. It’s like playing a big video game, Love my job

Been running cranes since I got in, got lucky I didn't spend anytime in dirt. 110% happy. Great pay.

Good luck to all!

+2

I graduated from Purdue in '73 and "wasted" 30 years as a design engineer. The economy turned to crap, and I needed to learn a new skill. I didn't apprentice with IUOE until I was 53 ... I was older than my instructors. Scored high on the eligibility test, eye sight (depth perception) was getting worse so I didn't trust my ability as a crane hand ... but a bunch of my friend are crane hands.

As an apprentice you'll be wearing a lot of hats. Grade checking is interesting; you always know where the project is. Pushing dirt, to me, was always just plain old fun (scraper trains being the exception). I got my class A training from IUOE... another skill I'd suggest you all look into (it can come in handy in the off season).

I just filed for my "pension"; starting so late I didn't pile up a lot of credits. I've always enjoyed working outdoors... too bad I didn't get into the trade sooner.

Anyone get their test scores back? I passed with a score of 80.
Not sure if that will be high enough.

Whats wrong with dirt hands?

J/k.

Started out as an OE 3 HDR. Jumped over to cranes as a journeyman when Apple started building the spaceship.

Prior to my test the guy in charge said he had started calling people who scored 80% from the last test, 2 years ago. So that may give you a little idea of how long it may take to get a call.
