106 signatures and growing

http://petitions.moveon.org/sign/chabot-gun-club-safe

the opposition has 170...would be 160, but someone is signing the petition fictitiously, and posting insulting comments. I don't think that's helping our cause.

Here is a petition to support and keep open the Anthony Chabot Regional Park Marksmanship Range. Its contract with the East Bay Regional Parks is up for renewal this year. This petition will be given to the EBRP board. Please sign it and in the comments write why it is important to you and the community. The anti gun forces have a petition the close the range due noise level and harm to the environment.

Please act now!

The "right" petition, in favor of keeping the range operating there, now has more signatures that the petition seeking its removal. This is great, but the margin is too slim. Please share the petition with anyone you know, ask them to sign. It shouldn't be hard to bury the opposition on this.

http://petitions.moveon.org/sign/chabot-gun-club-safe

Also, if you have the time, please consider writing a personal letter supporting the range and its long history of providing safe place to practice, excellent training, and positive recreational opportunities.

East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD)
2950 Peralta Oaks Court
P.O. Box 5381
Oakland, CA 94605-0381

Such letters carry a lot more weight than online signatures.

UPDATE...

251 us to 189 them. Keep forwarding this to supporters. It would be nice to crush their numbers.

And they don't even really have 189, since some of them are people that signed to leave comments supporting Chabot before the 'safe' petition was available.

I note that there are two different petitions on Moveon in support of shutting down the Gun Club.

This looks like the original petition was put back up but with different language.

http://petitions.moveon.org/sign/sto...tically-reduce

They have over 680 signatures to date.

What an idiot..

886. Pallavi Somusetty from Oakland, CA signed this petition on Feb 19, 2014.
It would be a shame to keep the noise-levels as is, due to a few insensitive pro-gun types using childhood nostalgia or Second Amendment rights as an excuse to impede on our quality of life in our own backyard.

Especially since they probably can't even hear it from where they live. I live very close to the range and can barely hear it.

I live up the street from Lake Chabot and hike there almost every weekend. I've been hiking and biking there for over 30 years, and yeah sure I can hear the range from certain areas of the park - like the area where a trail leads up to the range, or from the top of Fairmont Ridge. But did it ever bother me? Nope. It's certainly not as bad as some claim. And I seriously doubt more than a small fraction of the people who have signed the petition to close the range have even been to Chabot park.

Here is a draft letter I plan to send to each EBRPD board member. This is to the current President. Reword and you see fit but please be respectful.

List of Board members:

http://www.ebparks.org/about/board

February 19, 2014

Ayn Wieskamp
President of East Bay Regional Park District Board
East Bay Regional Park District(EBRPD)
2950 Peralta Oaks Court
P.O. Box 5381
Oakland, CA 94605-0381

Dear Madame President Wieskamp:

I am writing to ask you to support keeping the Chabot Gun Club marksmanship range open. This is a valuable community resource in that it promotes firearms training and safe use among local citizens in the San Francisco East Bay area.

My father taught me and my brothers’ safe gun handling and marksmanship at Chabot nearly 35 years ago. I plan to teach my children safe firearm skills when they become of age. Chabot provides excellent training opportunities as well as a safe place to practice all types of shooting activities. It serves the community well in this regard. It would be a shame to close this excellent range due to a few over sensitive anti-gun types using noise as an excuse to further limit access to safe places to practice these skills. *I have hiked, fished and camped at Anthony Chabot Park and never heard excessive firearms noise. The EPA works with the range to measure the lead content and ensure it meets safety guild-lines. Also the lead and other metals are recycled. Closing the range would be a hardship since people would have to drive further out to go to other ranges in Livermore or the Peninsula. Going to ranges further away would impact those with lower or fixed incomes. *I invite the folks complaining about the range to go there and watch. You will be surprised by the diversity of the people shooting. Men, women, kids of age, whites, blacks, Asians, Hispanics, middle-eastern , working class, techies and GBTG folks. Come to any Calguns.net gathering or any weekend, you will see the diverse population that uses this valuable resource

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

X

Look who was the 2nd person that signed the new petition to close Chabot..Our old friend from Saint George Spirits Distillery, founder Jorg Rupf!! He took his original petition down after getting heat from the us in January.

The time for threats is over. Time to launch a nation wide boycott of their products starting with Hanger One Vodka!

2. Jorg Rupf from Oakland, CA signed this petition on Feb 17, 2014.
1. Frank Burton from Hayward, CA signed this petition on Feb 16, 2014.

Although this thread was begun first and has more posts, I'm closing this one since I've stickied another one. I have done so, because the link to the petition to support it staying open is in the OP, so it is seen immediately.
