It isn’t a mystery, hahah. The receivers and barrels are beefed up compared to AR-15’s ... yup heavy rifles are heavy. The .308 isn’t a .22

Do you suppose
Grandpa complained about the weight of his Garand?
He and his pals were smaller back then too... |

It's probably the BALANCE. You can have a 15lb rifle that's a dream to shoot offhand if it's balanced. You can have a 10lb rifle that's front heavy and FEELS heavier than the balanced 15lb rifle because you are fighting the imbalance.

An 16” isn’t much lighter if any depending on optics and hand guard... I was surprised I think my 18" Mlok tube rifle is about the same as the 16” but no Thordo so that might be why.

While everyone debates lighter equipment, sling choices, or exercise regimen, no one is discussing how to achieve good support.
Of course someone will say "That doesn't work in run-n-gun shooting", but a slow "A zone" shot beats a rapid miss any day.... Last edited by smoothy8500; 07-25-2018 at 6:41 AM.. |

I see .308's at 3-gun matches with regularity. If you want to shoot heavy division, the .308 is the caliber of choice.

Remember if you’re a smaller guy/gal you will have issues with its weight. Most aren’t strong enough to hold and shoot if for very long. I don’t see a 110 pound man recreationally shooting a 308 pistol for very long. |

I shot my M1A in a 3 gun. It was at Richmond where they luvvvvv high round counts. I think I used 3 twenty round mags in one stage, and by the end of the stage I could hardly hold the rifle straight and it beat the hell out of me every time I pulled the trigger. |

Although the C-grip works great with a lightweight carbine, it just doesn't work on a heavy 308 AR, or especially the M1A/Garand rifle. Last edited by smoothy8500; 05-24-2018 at 6:14 AM.. |

When I got into the 308 game I went with a lighter CA frendly non-scary option. My Browning BAR MK3 DBM is a great rifle and was remarkably light for what it is at 6 lbs 10 oz.
Lots of good advice with light add-ons. I put a beast of a scope and rings on mine adding 2 lbs overall. Trijicon Accupower 1-8 34x28. Still not bad but I'm looking for ultralight rings in the near future to shave some ozs. Sent from my KYOCERA-E6820 using Tapatalk

Me too. Midwayusa.com sells the 10 and 5 rounders for $50 each. I got mine for less but not sure if those days are over for good.
It's a great option especially in CA. The hogs might disagree...
