Can anyone share any info about this place?
I have some C&R guns and ammo id love to shoot and wondering if I can do it up there? I think its in Santa Barbara or around there right? Not real close to me but would like to check it out sometime. Is it like BLM style or an operated and owned range? |

It's forestry land so not a range but a shooting area. Totally unsupervised except for the ranger that comes by every now and then. It's best to go early if you do head up there so you don't have to deal with the riff-raff.
It's in the hills above Santa Barbara on east camino cielo off of hwy 154. Let me see if I can locate a map for you. |

Here's some directions from our cleanup thread.
https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=U...sz=16&t=m&z=16 You will be on east camino cielo for quite a while and will feel like you have went too far but keep going. You will see it on your left coming down a hill. |

I've actually never been even though I'm in Santa Barbara. Would be great to find a free place to shoot. I'm thinking about going there as early as possible, maybe have the place to myself for a while. But we all need to remember to clean up after ourselves.

Just got a call from the forestry service. We are closed again due to fire hazard. I will post up again when we reopen.

It doesn't "open" per se since it's not officially a range. That said, there's a guy named Bob an ex-ranger IIRC who helps clean up the range real early. Was there at dawn this past Sunday and he was there. We hung around and chit-chatted while we set up targets and he mozied off the range when we started shooting. It's best to get there early anyway cuz you don't have to deal with a bunch of yahoos. There's been a major effort to keep it clean lately so please account for your trash and take other stuff if you're able. Not an ideal shooting range but hey, it's free!

Yes, "(if any)" was a bad choice of words. Just wondering because, I've heard even bio-degradeable is a no-go around Mojave because of the lack of rain.
